Maruti Suzuki Fronx Facelift Spied Testing: ADAS, Rear Disc Brakes, New Engine Expected

The upcoming Maruti Suzuki Fronx facelift has been spotted testing, revealing potential additions like ADAS, rear disc brakes, and a new 1.2-litre Z12E engine to improve fuel efficiency.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx Facelift Spied Testing: ADAS, Rear Disc Brakes, New Engine Expected

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is set to receive a mid-cycle update, with the facelifted model recently spotted testing with a few exterior changes and additional safety features. The updated compact SUV is expected to borrow some of the changes introduced with the recently facelifted Baleno, including a new petrol engine and additional cabin features.
Key Highlights:
  • Maruti Fronx facelift spotted with revised grille and possible ADAS hardware.
  • Front parking sensors and rear disc brakes could be added.
  • A new 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine is expected.
  • The updated Fronx could get new features and a revised price.
While Maruti Suzuki has not officially announced the launch timeline, the test mule offers a glimpse of the changes that could arrive with the updated Fronx.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx Facelift: Expected Exterior Changes

The test mule features a revised front grille, with a box-like component in the centre that appears to be radar hardware for a possible advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). However, the addition of ADAS has not been officially confirmed.
The LED headlights and daytime running lights appear unchanged from the current model. The front bumper, which remains covered in camouflage, could receive some design revisions. The facelifted Fronx has also been spotted with front parking sensors, a feature missing from the current model.
In profile, the test vehicle retains the existing dual-tone alloy wheels. However, the rear wheels appear to feature disc brakes, which are not available on the current Fronx.
The rear section remains largely covered, making it difficult to identify all the changes. Revised lighting elements and a redesigned rear bumper are expected as part of the update.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx Facelift: Expected Featutres

Although the test mule does not reveal the cabin, the updated Fronx could receive some of the features introduced with the Baleno facelift. These could include ventilated front seats and a Clarion sound system. The dashboard layout is expected to remain largely unchanged, while leatherette seat upholstery could be introduced alongside the ventilation function.
The addition of front parking sensors and potentially ADAS could also improve the Fronx's safety and driver assistance package. However, the final feature list will be confirmed closer to the launch.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx Facelift: Expected Engine?

One of the biggest expected changes is a new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine. The facelifted Fronx could replace its existing 1.2-litre, four-cylinder K12N petrol engine with the newer Z12E unit, similar to the Baleno. The Z12E engine produces 83hp and 112Nm of torque. These figures are slightly lower than the current engine's output, but the newer unit is expected to offer better fuel efficiency.
The engine could be paired with a five-speed manual gearbox or a five-speed automated manual transmission (AMT). A factory-fitted CNG option is also expected, potentially with both manual and AMT gearbox choices. The CNG version is expected to produce around 70hp.
The 1.0-litre, three-cylinder Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine is likely to continue unchanged. It currently produces 100hp and 148Nm of torque and is available with a five-speed manual or a six-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

What will be the price of the Maruti Fronx facelift?

The current Maruti Suzuki Fronx is priced between Rs 6.90 lakh and Rs 12.03 lakh (ex-showroom). The facelift could command a revised price depending on the changes in features, safety equipment and powertrain options.
Once launched, the updated Fronx will continue to compete with the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite and Citroen C3 in the Indian market. Maruti Suzuki is yet to announce the official launch date, prices or complete specifications of the facelifted Fronx.
