Maruti Suzuki Launches Technical Training For EV Maintenance In ITIs

Maruti Suzuki has rolled out a training initiative across 130 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in India to equip students with skills for handling high voltage systems in electric and hybrid vehicles. The program is part of the company’s CSR efforts and aims to prepare a skilled workforce as EV adoption grows.

Maruti Suzuki Launches Technical Training For EV Maintenance In ITIs

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has started a training program to help students at Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) learn how to work with high voltage systems used in electric and hybrid vehicles. The training is now running in 130 ITIs located across 24 States and 4 Union Territories. The first group of students trained under this program—over 4,100 individuals—is expected to be ready to join the workforce starting September 2025.
This effort is part of the company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative and supports India’s broader goal of increasing electric vehicle (EV) adoption. The company has invested around Rs 3.9 crore in the training initiative.

Training Focus and Coverage

The training is designed for second-year ITI students. It covers key subjects such as the basics of electric and hybrid vehicles, safety methods for working with high voltage systems, the use of specific tools and devices and system maintenance practices.

Faculty Support and Resources

To assist ITI faculty, Maruti Suzuki has also included train-the-trainer sessions. Along with the training content, necessary tools and equipment have been provided to the institutes.
Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “We want to maximize adoption of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) in the country. When we researched the reasons for low adoption of EVs, one of the major hurdles in the minds of the customers was confidence in after-sales support. Incidentally, this is an area of strength for Maruti Suzuki. While 90%[1] of EV sales happen in 100 cities, we will go 10x and cover 1,000 cities with more than 1,500 workshops equipped to provide service support to BEVs. The fundamental to good service is a trained technician. Our High Voltage training CSR program in about 130 ITIs of India will train more than 4,100 students every year. At the end of the course, these trained technicians are free to join Maruti Suzuki service network or any other OEM. Hence, this upskilling of students is strategic to BEV adoption in India. The high voltage training will be useful for Strong Hybrid cars also, and so there is a synergy between both technologies.”
Recently, Maruti Suzuki inaugurated two Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) in Uttarakhand under its CSR initiative. The Automated Driving Test Tracks are set up in Haridwar and Rishikesh and were inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami.
