Mercedes-Benz has expanded its electric vehicle portfolio in India with the launch of the new GLC EV at an introductory price of Rs 78.50 lakh (ex-showroom). The electric SUV is the brand's smallest electric car on sale in India and is being locally assembled at the company's manufacturing facility near Pune. With a claimed driving range of 711 km, a powerful dual-motor setup and a long list of premium features, the GLC EV enters a growing luxury electric SUV segment.
Bookings for the electric SUV opened in October, while deliveries have commenced today. Mercedes-Benz has also confirmed that it has received over 1,000 bookings for the model, with the SUV reportedly sold out until March 2027.

Mercedes-Benz GLC EV: Battery, Range and Performance

The India-spec Mercedes-Benz GLC EV is offered in the GLC400 configuration. It gets a 94kWh battery pack that delivers a claimed WLTP range of 711 km on a single charge. The company also claims that the electric SUV can gain up to 300 km of range with just 10 minutes of charging using a DC fast charger.
Power comes from a dual-motor setup that produces 490bhp and 800Nm of torque. This makes the GLC EV a performance-focused offering in the luxury electric SUV segment.
In terms of dimensions, the electric SUV measures 4.85 metres in length and has a wheelbase of 2.97 metres. These dimensions are expected to translate into a spacious cabin for occupants.

Mercedes-Benz GLC EV: Features and Design

The new GLC EV comes equipped with several premium features. One of the main highlights is the MBUX Hyperscreen, which takes up a significant portion of the dashboard. Other features include a Burmester sound system with Dolby Atmos, ambient lighting and a panoramic glass roof.
The front seats get ventilation and massage functions, while other features include wireless charging pads, a power-folding second row and a full LED lighting package. The electric SUV also gets Level 2 ADAS and an automatic parking function.
For luggage, it offers a 570-litre boot along with an additional 128-litre front storage compartment, also known as a frunk.
On the exterior, the India-spec model comes with an AMG design package. It includes an electric AMG grille, 20-inch AMG alloy wheels, aluminium running boards and connected tail lamps.

Mercedes-Benz GLC EV: Rivals and Bookings

The Mercedes-Benz GLC EV currently enters a relatively new space in the Indian luxury car market. One of its key upcoming rivals will be the BMW iX3, which is expected to arrive in India in 2027.
The BMW electric SUV is expected to compete with the GLC EV in terms of performance, features, cabin space and positioning. BMW is also expected to explore local assembly for the iX3, although its India-specific details are yet to be confirmed.
With more than 1,000 bookings already received and deliveries now underway, the GLC EV has made a strong start in the Indian market. The arrival of the BMW iX3 next year is expected to bring more competition to this segment.
