German luxury automaker, Mercedes-Benz has announced that it has closed the 2025 calendar year (CY25) with total retail sales of 19,007 vehicles in India. This represents a year-on-year fall in annual car sales of 2.85 percent. In CY2024 Mercedes-Benz sold 19,565 units of luxury cars in India. Despite this drop in sales volume, the company recorded its highest-ever annual revenue in India. This result was driven by increased contribution from higher-priced models. Sharing this update the company highlighted that India has emerged as one of the top five global markets for the Mercedes-Maybach in 2025.
With this sales performance, Mercedes-Benz retained its position as the highest-selling luxury carmaker in India. However, its lead over BMW has been reduced in CY25. Taking the sales performance of both these brands into account, 2026 will offer the perfect ground for an intense competition in the Indian luxury car market between BMW and Mercedes-Benz for the top spot.
The information shared by Mercedes-Benz India states that the Core segment remained its largest consideration in terms of volumes including models like the C-Class, GLC, E-Class and GLE, which together accounted for 62 percent of the company’s total sales in 2025.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB is considered the cornerstone in the Indian luxury car segment and it continued as the highest-selling luxury car in the domestic market in 2025 as well. Sales of Top-End Vehicles (TEVs), including S-Class, Mercedes-Maybach range and AMG models, witnessed a 11 percent year-on-year increase. TEVs accounted for 25 percent of the company’s total sales in CY2025. The Mercedes-AMG models also registered an impressive growth of 34 percent. The entry level luxury car segment consisting of models like the A-Class, GLA and GLB, reported a 20 percent drop in sales. The contribution of this segment fell to 13 percent of the total sales last calendar year, in 2024 this segment accounted for 20 percent of the company’s total sales.
Electric Vehicles (EVs) are the talk of the town amid growing environmental concerns, in 2025 EVs accounted for 20 percent of Mercedes-Benz India’s total sales in 2025. This also represents 12 percent year-on-year growth in annual EV sales for the company. Last year EQS SUV emerged as the brand’s highest-selling EV.
The company also shared that following GST price revisions in India last year, the share of diesel-powered models increased to 43 percent. In 2024 the share of diesel sales for Mercedes-Benz India stood at 39 percent.
Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said, “We have delivered another best-ever year in terms of revenue growth buoyed by high affinity amongst discerning customers, reflected in the strong growth in the TEV segment as well in top-end BEVs. Our strategy of focusing on ‘value over volume’ and offering high product substance, keeps the customer experience at the core, while ensuring customers continue to enjoy a feature rich product and retains high Residual Value for their Mercedes-Benz.”
