Mitsubishi is gearing up to unveil the all-new Pajero globally next month. The new-generation SUV marks the return of one of the Japanese carmaker's most recognisable nameplates and is expected to stay true to the Pajero's off-road legacy. Ahead of the global debut, Mitsubishi has already confirmed the return of its iconic Multi Meter, now reimagined as a digital display.
The fifth-generation Pajero is expected to sit on a ladder-frame platform derived from the Triton pickup truck and will get a four-wheel-drive system. While Mitsubishi is yet to reveal the complete specifications, the company has been gradually releasing details of the SUV ahead of its global premiere.

Mitsubishi Pajero: Expected Design

Mitsubishi has kept the design of the new Pajero largely under wraps ahead of its September 2 debut. However, the teasers released so far point towards a rugged SUV with a design that is expected to combine the brand's latest styling language with cues from the Pajero's heritage.
The new model is expected to be larger and more substantial than the previous-generation Pajero, while retaining the upright proportions associated with a traditional off-road SUV. More details about its exterior design, dimensions, ground clearance and wheel options are expected to be revealed at the global debut.

Mitsubishi Pajero: Expected Features

One of the key features confirmed for the new Pajero is its digital Multi Meter. The system is a modern interpretation of the triple-gauge setup that became a signature feature of earlier Pajero generations. The digital display will provide information such as altitude, compass heading, ambient temperature, pitch and roll angles, along with left-right torque distribution. This information should prove useful when driving over challenging terrain. The pitch and roll readings can help the driver understand the SUV's position on steep or uneven surfaces, while the torque distribution information provides an indication of how the four-wheel-drive system is responding to changes in traction. The Multi Meter is expected to be positioned where the driver can access the information easily, although Mitsubishi is yet to confirm its exact placement.

Mitsubishi Pajero: Expected Powertrain & Drivetrain

The new Pajero is expected to use a body-on-frame architecture based on the Triton's ladder-frame platform. This should give the SUV the structural strength required for serious off-road use.
The powertrain is expected to include Mitsubishi's 2.4-litre twin-turbo diesel engine, paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. However, Mitsubishi has not yet officially confirmed the engine specifications for the new Pajero.
A four-wheel-drive system will be central to the SUV's off-road capability, with the digital Multi Meter designed to provide additional information when the vehicle is being driven on difficult terrain.
The new Pajero is also expected to offer a towing capacity of around 3,500kg and a water-wading depth of approximately 800mm. These figures, however, remain to be officially confirmed.

Mitsubishi Pajero: Expected Safety Features

Mitsubishi is expected to equip the new Pajero with a comprehensive package of modern safety and driver-assistance technologies. Details of the equipment list are yet to be announced and are likely to be revealed during the global debut.
The SUV is also expected to feature a modern cabin with connected technology, digital displays and premium equipment, bringing the traditional Pajero formula in line with contemporary expectations.

Mitsubishi Pajero: Expected Price

Mitsubishi is yet to announce pricing or market-specific launch details for the new Pajero. The SUV is expected to go on sale internationally in 2027, with availability likely to vary across markets.

Will the new Mitsubishi Pajero Come to India?

For India, there is currently no official confirmation regarding the launch of the fifth-generation Pajero yet. If introduced, the SUV could compete with premium body-on-frame SUVs like - MG Majestor, Toyota Fortuner and others.
