Renault India will launch the
Duster Hybrid in India on October 17th 2026. The strong-hybrid version will add a third powertrain to the Duster lineup and introduce Renault’s Hybrid E-Tech technology to the Indian market. The company is expected to announce the price of the SUV on the launch date.
The Duster is currently available with 1.0-litre and 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engines. The new hybrid powertrain will be offered with an automatic transmission and is expected to target buyers looking for improved fuel efficiency in urban driving conditions.
Renault Duster Hybrid: Powertrain
The
Renault Duster Hybrid gets a 1.8-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with two electric motors. The setup includes a 49hp traction motor that drives the wheels and a 20hp integrated starter-generator.
The hybrid system produces around 160-162bhp and 172Nm of combined output. It is paired with a 1.4kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
The system can operate using electric power, the petrol engine or a combination of both. It also uses regenerative braking to recover energy and recharge the battery.
Renault says the Duster Hybrid can complete up to 80 percent of city driving in EV mode. Actual electric operation and fuel efficiency, however, will depend on traffic, driving speed, road conditions and driving style.
The Duster Hybrid uses a multi-mode automatic transmission with fixed gear ratios. This is different from the e-CVT-based hybrid system used by the Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Victoris.
Renault’s system can switch between electric drive, petrol-engine operation and combined petrol-electric drive. The transmission is designed to manage these operating modes depending on the driving conditions.
The Duster also gets a 1.4kWh battery, which is larger than the 0.60kWh battery used in the Toyota-Maruti strong-hybrid SUVs in the segment.
Renault Duster Hybrid: Rivals
The Renault Duster Hybrid will enter a segment that already includes the Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Victoris with strong-hybrid powertrains. While the competing models use Toyota’s hybrid technology, Renault has developed its own Hybrid E-Tech system for the Duster. The powertrain architecture and transmission are therefore different from the Toyota system.
Renault Duster Hybrid: Expected Price
The Renault Duster Hybrid is expected to be priced between Rs 19 lakh and Rs 23 lakh (ex-showroom). The hybrid version is expected to sit above the existing petrol-powered Duster variants and will become the most fuel-efficiency-focused powertrain in the lineup.
Renault Duster Hybrid: Bookings
Renault has already received strong demand for the Duster Hybrid. The company has confirmed that its entire allocation for 2026 has been sold out even before the official price announcement. Bookings have currently been paused. Renault could open another booking window for future delivery batches depending on demand.
