EV Range Anxiety? Renault Filante Record 2025 Completes 1,008 Km on a Single Charge
Renault's Filante Record 2025 electric vehicle has successfully completed a long-distance efficiency test, traveling 1,008 km on a single charge in under 10 hours at an average speed of 102 km/h. The test, conducted in Morocco, aimed to demonstrate energy efficiency at highway speeds. The vehicle, powered by an 87 kWh battery, maintained about 11% charge post-test, allowing for an additional 120 km. Although not intended for production, the concept showcases advancements in aerodynamics and weight reduction, emphasizing Renault's commitment to electric vehicle innovation.

The single-seat electric concept completed the distance in 9 hours and 52 minutes, maintaining an average speed of 102 kmph throughout the attempt. Renault stated that the objective was to validate energy efficiency under continuous highway-speed conditions rather than low-speed range demonstrations.
Power for the Filante Record 2025 comes from an 87 kWh battery, the same capacity used in the production Scenic E-Tech Electric. After completing the run, the vehicle reportedly retained around 11 percent battery charge, which Renault estimates could support an additional 120 km of driving at similar speeds.
Energy consumption during the test was recorded at approximately 7.8 kWh per 100 km. Renault said the result was achieved without increasing battery size, with the focus placed on reducing aerodynamic drag and overall vehicle weight. It has a reported kerb weight of about 1,000 kg. Renault has managed to keep the weight of the Filante Record 2025 low with extensive use of carbon fibre and aluminium parts.
Aerodynamic development included extensive wind tunnel testing, which reduced the car’s drag coefficient from around 0.40 to 0.30. Design changes included enclosed wheel fairings, a narrow body profile and reduced air intakes aimed at lowering resistance during sustained high-speed operation.
The concept also serves as a rolling testbed for new systems, including steer-by-wire and brake-by-wire technology. Michelin developed low-rolling-resistance tyres for the project, while Ligier was responsible for the powertrain, chassis and carbon structure.
Renault has clarified that the Filante Record 2025 is not intended for production. The project is positioned as an experimental platform to study how aerodynamics, mass reduction and system efficiency can extend real-world electric vehicle range without increasing battery capacity.
Sandeep Bhambra, Chief Designer Advanced Renault said, "The overarching goal, from the first sketches to the final test-track drive, was absolute efficiency. That's the hallmark of a record-breaking car – and it mirrors Renault's pioneering spirit and tradition since its inception in 1898. Teams of experts from Renault and its partners Michelin and Ligier worked on every aspect of Filante Record 2025's design to demonstrate that electric vehicles can now travel long distances without recharging, even at sustained speeds."
