Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 Launched in India: Top 5 Highlights
Royal Enfield has brought back the spirit of the popular Himalayan 411 with the new Himalayan 440. Positioned as a more affordable alternative to the Himalayan 450, the new adventure motorcycle uses the Scram 440’s engine but gets a more off-road-focused setup. Priced at Rs 2.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Chennai), the Himalayan 440 comes with updated suspension, a 21-inch front wheel and several other changes. Here are the top five highlights about the newly launched adventure motorcycle.
1. More Powerful Engine
The Himalayan 440 uses the same engine as the Scram 440. The engine produces 25.4hp and 34Nm of torque, which is 1.4hp and 2Nm more than the Himalayan 411. Royal Enfield has increased the bore by 3mm to achieve the higher output. The motorcycle also delivers 90 percent of its peak torque from 2,800rpm, which should make it easier to ride at lower speeds.
2. Built For Off-Road Riding
The biggest difference between the Himalayan 440 and Scram 440 is their suspension and wheel setup. The new Himalayan gets a 21-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel, giving it a more capable setup for trails and rough roads. It also gets 200mm of front suspension travel, while the rear suspension offers 180mm of travel.
3. Six-Speed Gearbox and 15-Litre Tank
The Himalayan 440 shares the Scram 440’s six-speed gearbox and 15-litre fuel tank. The extra gear should make highway riding more comfortable, while the larger fuel tank can help reduce the need for frequent fuel stops on longer rides. However, Royal Enfield has not equipped the motorcycle with a slipper clutch.
4. New Instrument Cluster and Features
Royal Enfield has given the Himalayan 440 a simpler twin-pod instrument cluster. The left pod houses the speedometer, while the right pod features the Tripper navigation system with Google Maps-based navigation. The motorcycle also gets LED headlights and a USB Type-C charging port. Dual-channel ABS is standard, with the option to switch off ABS at the rear.
5. Price, Colours and Warranty
The Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 is priced at Rs 2.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Chennai), irrespective of the colour. It is available in Mustang Brown, Nela White and Sela Black. Royal Enfield has also opened bookings across its dealerships and website. The motorcycle gets a standard three-year/30,000km warranty, which can be extended by up to four years.
