Tata Motors' Entire EV Lineup is Now Available with BaaS

Tata Motors has extended its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) module to its entire electric passenger vehicle range in India. The programme is now available across the Tiago.ev, Punch.ev, Nexon.ev, Curvv.ev, Sierra.ev and Harrier.ev. With BaaS extended to the entire lineup customers can now purchase the EV with the battery cost separated from the upfront vehicle price. The BaaS option was initially introduced for the Tiago.ev and Punch.ev and has now been expanded to the larger EVs in Tata Motors' portfolio.

Here are the model-wise BaaS prices of electric cars from Tata Motors. These prices represent the vehicle cost under the BaaS structure and do not include the separate battery payment and the battery usage charges vary depending on the model. The per-kilometre charges are separate from electricity or charging expenses.

Under the Battery-as-a-Service model, the battery is separated from the vehicle's upfront price. The vehicle and battery are financed separately, with the battery payment depending on factors including battery capacity, down payment and loan tenure.

For customers, the key difference is the lower initial vehicle price compared with purchasing the EV with the battery included. However, the overall ownership cost needs to be considered along with the battery payments, charging expenses, financing costs and other running costs.

Customers can also continue to purchase Tata electric cars through the conventional model, where the battery is included in the vehicle price.

The battery usage component is charged on a per-kilometre basis under the BaaS structure. Tata Motors has set different rates across its EV portfolio.

The Tiago.ev and Punch.ev have an indicative battery usage cost of Rs 2.60 per km. The Nexon.ev has a battery usage cost of Rs 4.40 per km and the Curvv.ev has a battery usage cost of Rs 5 per km under the BaaS model.

The Sierra.ev and Harrier.ev have a battery usage cost of Rs 5.50 per km and Rs 5.90 per km respectively. These charges are in addition to the charging cost of the vehicle.

With the latest expansion, Tata Motors now offers BaaS across its complete passenger electric vehicle range. The portfolio starts with the Tiago.ev and extends to the Harrier.ev, with the Punch.ev, Nexon.ev, Curvv.ev and Sierra.ev positioned between them.

The company has been expanding the BaaS programme as part of its efforts to provide an alternative financing structure for EV buyers. The model separates the battery cost from the vehicle price, which reduces the initial acquisition cost but adds a separate recurring battery-related payment.

For buyers considering the BaaS option, the effective monthly outgo, expected annual kilometres, loan tenure and battery usage charges will be important factors when comparing it with Tata Motors' conventional battery-included pricing.
