Tata Motors, Tata Power To Set Up 131 MW Wind-Solar Hybrid Project For Factory Operations

Tata Motors has partnered with Tata Power Renewable Energy to build a 131 MW wind-solar hybrid project. The clean power generated will be used at six of Tata Motors' manufacturing plants across Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Tata Motors, Tata Power To Set Up 131 MW Wind-Solar Hybrid Project For Factory Operations

Tata Motors and Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to develop a wind-solar hybrid project with a capacity of 131 megawatts. The agreement includes a joint investment plan and long-term energy supply arrangement.

Expected Power Generation and Emission Offset

The project is planned to produce 300 million units of electricity each year. It is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 2 lakh tonnes annually by replacing energy from conventional sources.

Energy Use Across Manufacturing Units

The electricity generated will be supplied to six Tata Motors manufacturing units in Maharashtra and Gujarat. These units produce commercial and passenger vehicles.
Pramod Choudhary, Vice President – Operations, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, mentioned that, “We are committed to transition to clean energy for building a future ready automotive business. With this PPA our plants in Maharashtra and Gujarat will take a significant leap in our journey towards Green Manufacturing, complementing India’s green transition. It’s a defining step towards making our Passenger Vehicle Operations greener, smarter, and more resilient on sustainable basis.”

Part of Renewable and Emission Reduction Targets

The project contributes to Tata Motors’ target of meeting its renewable energy goals before 2030. It is also part of the company’s broader plan to lower emissions across its operations.
Vishal Badshah, Vice President – Operations, Commercial Vehicles, Tata Motors, said, "As a key driver of India’s mobility and logistics ecosystem, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles is proud to lead by example in sustainable manufacturing. This project reinforces our commitment to integrate renewable energy into our operations and reducing our carbon footprint while meeting our RE-100 goals. It also reflects our broader purpose of delivering mobility solutions that are sustainable at every stage—from production to performance."
