Tesla Model Y Gets Grok AI Assistant in India Through Free OTA Update
Tesla has rolled out a major software update for the Model Y in India, bringing its AI-powered Grok assistant to customers at no additional cost. The update is being delivered over-the-air (OTA), allowing existing owners to access new artificial intelligence features without visiting a service centre.

Grok AI Brings Smarter Voice Assistance
The biggest addition is the Grok AI assistant, which can be activated by saying "Hey Grok" or by pressing the voice button on the steering wheel. While the feature has been available in international markets since 2025, it is now being introduced for Tesla Model Y owners in India.
Tesla says the AI assistant offers natural conversations and can help drivers with navigation, vehicle-related information and various in-car functions using voice commands.
Supports Multiple Indian Languages
One of the key highlights of the update is support for several Indian languages. Grok can interact with users in Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada, making voice commands more accessible for Indian customers.
Users can also personalise the assistant's tone, language and conversational style based on their preferences.
Smarter Navigation and Everyday Convenience
Tesla has expanded Grok's navigation capabilities with the Summer 2026 update. The AI assistant can now automatically suggest destinations based on a driver's personal habits and schedule instead of limiting recommendations to just home or work.
Drivers can also use voice commands to:
- Plan multi-stop journeys.
- Find nearby Tesla Superchargers.
- Search for coffee shops, restaurants, hospitals, ATMs and public toilets.
- Understand vehicle alerts and warning messages displayed on the touchscreen.
Tesla Model Y Price in India
The Tesla Model Y is currently available in two variants:
- Premium RWD (5-seater): Rs 50.89 lakh (ex-showroom)
- L Premium AWD (7-seater): Rs 61.99 lakh (ex-showroom)
In the Indian market, the Model Y competes with premium electric SUVs such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and BYD Sealion 7.
