Updated Tata Punch Launched in South Africa with Turbo Petrol Engine
Tata Motors has introduced the updated Punch in South Africa, bringing fresh styling, additional features and a turbocharged petrol engine to the compact SUV. Launched in partnership with Motus Holdings, the refreshed model retains a starting price of R224,900 (approximately Rs 12.86 lakh).
The updated Punch is available in three variants: Pure+, Adventure and Accomplished+ S. It will be sold alongside the older version in the South African market, giving buyers the option to choose between the two models.
Tata Punch South Africa: Price and Variants
The new Tata Punch range starts at R224,900 (approximately Rs 12.86 lakh) for the entry-level Pure+ variant. The mid-spec Adventure is priced at R244,900 (around Rs 14.01 lakh), while the top-spec Accomplished+ S costs R269,900 (approximately Rs 15.44 lakh).
The Pure+ and Adventure variants are powered by a naturally aspirated petrol engine, while the range-topping Accomplished+ S gets a turbocharged petrol engine.
Interestingly, the older Punch will continue to be available in South Africa, with its starting price also listed at R224,900 under a Deal Assist discount.
Tata Punch Gets Turbo Petrol Engine
One of the biggest changes to the updated Punch is the addition of a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. Available with the top-spec Accomplished+ S variant, it produces 88 kW of power and 170 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox.
The other two variants continue with the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated, three-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 65 kW and 115 Nm. This engine comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
However, the updated South African lineup does not offer an automatic transmission. While the older model was available with a five-speed manual and an AMT option, the new range is currently limited to manual gearboxes.
Tata Punch: Exterior Design
The updated Punch also receives styling changes at the front and rear. The front fascia now features slimmer upper lighting elements, vertically positioned main headlamps and a redesigned bumper. Higher-spec variants also get connected rear lighting elements, giving the SUV a refreshed appearance.
In terms of dimensions, the updated Punch is 49 mm longer than before, with its overall length increasing to 3,876 mm. However, its width of 1,742 mm, height of 1,615 mm and wheelbase of 2,445 mm remain unchanged.
Tata Motors' South African Lineup
Apart from the Punch, Tata Motors sells several other models in South Africa, including the Tiago, Osprey (Nexon), Curvv and Harrier.
The Tiago is the most affordable model in the lineup, with prices starting at R189,900 (approximately Rs 10.86 lakh). The Osprey starts at R249,900 (around Rs 14.29 lakh), while the Curvv is priced from R349,900 (approximately Rs 20.01 lakh). The Harrier sits at the top of the range, with a starting price of R549,900 (around Rs 31.45 lakh).
