The Tukan has been designed, developed and will be manufactured entirely in Brazil. Production will take place at Volkswagen’s plant in Sao Jose dos Pinhais, Parana, with the pickup scheduled to go on sale in Brazil in the first half of 2027.
Volkswagen says around 76 percent of the vehicle’s components will be sourced locally. The double-cab version has been showcased in the top-spec Extreme trim, while the single-cab model is aimed at commercial users and is shown in the entry-level Robust trim.

The double-cab Tukan is positioned as a lifestyle-oriented compact pickup, while the single-cab version focuses more on practicality and load carrying. The latter gets a shorter cabin and a longer cargo bed.
The cargo area has been designed to handle different types of loads and can be equipped with various accessories. It also gets an integrated toolbox and is designed to accommodate pallets of different sizes.
Although the Tukan shares architecture with models such as the T-Cross, Volkswagen has given the pickup a distinct design. The front features an upright profile with higher-mounted LED headlamps and a larger black section on the lower bumper.
Pronounced wheel arches, a raised waistline and protective body cladding give the pickup a rugged appearance. At the rear, the LED tail-lamps, tailgate and bumper form a connected design theme. The double-cab model also gets a black element linking the tail-lamps.

MQB Platform Gets Major Changes

While the Tukan is based on the MQB architecture, Volkswagen has made substantial changes to suit its pickup application. It gets specially developed leaf-spring rear suspension aimed at improving durability and load-carrying ability. The wheelbase has also been extended.
Volkswagen says the Tukan has completed more than two million kilometres of testing, including real-world evaluations with customers.

Volkswagen Tukan: Powertrain Details Yet to be Revealed

Volkswagen has not disclosed the final engine and transmission specifications. However, the Tukan is expected to use a mild-hybrid version of the company’s 1.5-litre four-cylinder TSI turbo-petrol engine.
More details about the powertrain, performance and other specifications are expected to be announced closer to its market launch.
