Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A., announced a safety recall for 299 units of its 2024 Z7 Hybrid ABS and Ninja 7 Hybrid ABS motorcycles . The weld of the head pipe to the frame can crack and negatively affect vehicle handling. This could increase the risk of a crash. In the Recall the company has stated ""DO NOT RIDE YOUR 2024 Z7 HYBRID ABS OR NINJA 7 HYBRID ABS DUE TO THE RISK OF A CRASH"
The affected motorcycles are the ones that were manufactured from March 5, 2024 to April 1, 2024. In July 2024, Kawasaki Motors Thailand (KMT) noticed the defect, where they saw that the head pipe was not properly welded to the frame on some units. The weld bead was not long enough to bind the two pieces.
September 2024, KMT sent some affected vehicles to Kawasaki Motors, Ltd. (KML) in Japan for further testing. KML did durability testing to determine whether vehicle function was affected by this condition. Then in October 2024, KML found that in vehicles with this condition a crack can occur in the frame at the edge of the
welding bead. After extensive use, there is a risk that the crack negatively affects vehicle handling. So in November Kawasaki decided to initiate the recall campaign.
Kawasaki's Authorized dealerships will repair or replace the defective frames for free to the customer. Additionally, Kawasaki has also established a reimbursement program for owners who incurred repair costs before receiving the recall notice.
