Yamaha Chennai Plant Completes 10 Years, Crosses 5 Million Units In Production
India Yamaha Motor (IYM) Pvt. Ltd. marked ten years of manufacturing at its Chennai plant on June 4, 2025. Alongside this, the company rolled out its 5 millionth vehicle from the facility, an Aerox 155 Version S. The factory has become a major production base for Yamaha, supplying two-wheelers to both the domestic market and international markets including Europe, Latin America and ASEAN countries.
Production and Export Volumes
The plant produces models such as the RayZR 125 Fi, Fascino 125 Fi and Aerox 155 Version S. For export, the facility manufactures the FZ series, Saluto and Alpha. Exports account for over 30% of total production.
Factory Layout and Supply Chain Integration
The facility covers 177 acres, with 109 acres allocated to Yamaha and 68 acres to vendor partners. This arrangement enables manufacturing and supply activities to function within a single coordinated system. Utilities are located in a central zone to reduce losses and simplify system management.
Product Strategy and Regulation Compliance
The plant has adapted to meet emission standards and is used to supply models with small to mid-size engines. It has been identified as a production base for meeting local and international requirements.
Itaru Otani, Chairman, Yamaha Motor India Group of Companies, said: “The Chennai factory holds strategic importance in Yamaha’s global manufacturing network. It exemplifies our unwavering focus on people, processes, and products—driven by skilled employees, synchronized operations, and a strong commitment to global quality standards. As one of Yamaha’s most modern manufacturing facilities worldwide, it has supported India’s mobility aspirations while reinforcing its role as a trusted exporter to global markets. As we celebrate the roll-out of the 5 millionth two-wheeler, I extend my deepest appreciation to our dedicated employees, vendor partners and passionate customers who have made this journey possible. We will continue to progress, and Chennai factory will keep playing a major role in addressing the evolving customer demands in Indian and overseas markets.”
Energy and Water Use Systems
The plant includes 4450 kW of installed solar power capacity. It uses water recycling systems and follows a zero-discharge process. The buildings are designed for natural light use and can support solar systems. The facility aligns with Yamaha’s goals to manage energy use and reduce environmental impact.
