2026 Volvo S90 Facelift Debuts With Updated Design, Larger Central Display And Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain

Swedish luxury automaker Volvo has taken the wraps off the 2026 model year S90 hybrid sedan. This is the biggest update to the S90 since its debut nearly a decade ago. The 2026 model year S90 sedan has been introduced with notable design changes, technology updates and a new plug-in hybrid powertrain. Sharing this update the company revealed that the 2026 S90 will first go on sale in the Chinese market this summer, following which it will be introduced in other global markets.

2026 Volvo S90 PHEV: Design & Features

The 2026 Volvo S90 retains its iconic silhouette in this update but features notable interior and exterior design changes. On the outside it features a new front fascia which aligns with the company’s latest design philosophy which we have also seen in the updated XC90 and XC60 SUVs. Other significant design changes include a redesigned grille with directional graphics, new matrix LED headlamps with Volvo’s signature ‘Thor’s Hammer’ DRLs, reworked front bumper and bonnet and new tail-lamp design.
Volvo has also introduced new exterior colour options for the 2026 model year sedan including - Aurora Silver and Mulberry Red. It also gets redesigned diamond-cut two-tone alloy wheels.
On Inside, the 2026 model year S90 retains its existing layout but features a larger 11.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, replacing the previous 9-inch unit. This new infotainment system also supports over-the-air (OTA) software updates. However the display now protrudes from the dashboard rather than sitting flush, mirroring the setup in the updated XC90.
The cabin also benefits from enhanced sound insulation. Adaptive suspension is now offered as standard across the range, aiming to improve ride comfort. Volvo's semi-autonomous Pilot Assist driving system continues to be part of the safety suite.

2026 Volvo S90 PHEV: Powertrain

The facelifted 2026 S90 will be available in mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid configurations. While complete technical specifications are yet to be disclosed by Volvo, the company has confirmed that the updated plug-in hybrid variant (PHEV) now offers up to 80 km of pure electric driving range under the WLTP cycle which is an increase of 6 km from the previous range of 74 km.
Both these versions will house Volvo’s 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines. Diesel powertrains are no longer part of the model lineup, in line with Volvo's global strategy to phase out diesel offerings.
