Jaguar Land Rover Recalls Nearly 21,000 Range Rover Evoque SUVs in the US Over Airbag Defect
Jaguar Land Rover North America has announced a voluntary safety recall for 20,999 units of the Range Rover Evoque that were manufactured between July 10, 2020 and October 7, 2024 due to a manufacturing defect in the front passenger airbag. The recall involves 2021 to 2024 model years and select MY25 vehicles assembled at the Halewood plant in the United Kingdom.
According to he report filled by JLR to NHTSA, A concern has been identified on 2021 to 2024 and certain 2025 Model Year Range Rover Evoque vehicles where, during a passenger airbag deployment, the airbag may tear as a result of improper folding of the airbag during the airbag assembly process. A torn airbag may reduce the occupant protection and therefore increase risk of injury in the event of a crash. A torn airbag may also allow the escape of hot gasses which may cause burns to occupants. There have been no reports of crashes, injuries or fires linked to the defect in the U.S. as of the recall filing.
The defect was traced back to variability in the folding of the airbag material, as observed during field inspections and testing. The investigation, which began in May 2023, included extensive testing of airbag deployment under varying temperatures and conditions. By June 2025, Jaguar Land Rover concluded that the fold irregularities were likely contributing to abnormal airbag performance. The affected airbag modules were supplied by Joyson Safety Systems Hungary Kft. located in Miskolc, Hungary.
To deal with the issue, JLR saud that they will replace the passenger airbag module and associated components at no cost to vehicle owners. Customers who previously paid for related repairs may be eligible for reimbursement under the company’s claims process.
