Mercedes-Benz has recalled 30 units in India, including EQS, S-Class, GLC and AMG SL models, due to a fault in the fuse box that may lead to propulsion loss, malfunctioning systems and a fire risk.
Mercedes-Benz India has initiated a voluntary recall for four of its models due to concerns over improperly reworked fuse boxes. The affected vehicles include:
  • 16 units of the EQS (297), manufactured between July 19, 2023 and April 8, 2024
  • 9 units of the S-Class and Maybach S-Class (223), produced between June 22, 2023 and March 20, 2024
  • 3 units of the GLC-Class (254), built from September 9, 2023 to December 4, 2023
  • 2 units of the AMG SL (232), made between July 5, 2023 and August 28, 2023

The recall was confirmed in documents released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
According to the information given on SIAM website, "In the process, it has been identified that the fuse boxes might not have been reworked correctly. As a result, systems connected to the fuse might fail, and the vehicle might lose its propulsion without prior warning, and the restraint functions or the instrument cluster might also be impaired; increasing the risk of a crash and injuries. Under such specific circumstances, a potential risk of thermal incident in the vehicle cannot be excluded."

Context of the Recall

This is the third recall in India by Mercedes-Benz in 2025 related to fire risk. Other recalls this year addressed software glitches in the electronic control unit and missing safety labels. Globally, similar fuse-related issues have led to the recall of nearly 93,000 Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the United States.
Earlier this year, Mercedes-Benz India recalled several models including the C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, GLC, AMG GT, G-Class and AMG E-Class. The C-Class and E-Class were recalled due to a fault in the engine control unit (ECU), while the other models faced issues related to the fuel delivery module.
