Mercedes-Benz Recalls 26 GLE And GLS SUVs Over Windshield Bonding Issue
Mercedes-Benz USA has initiated a safety recall affecting 26 vehicles from its 2024 and 2025 GLE and GLS lineups. The recall addresses a defect in the bonding between the windshield and components such as the multi-purpose camera and interior mirror, which could impair visibility or disrupt driver assistance systems.
Mercedes-Benz Recalls 26 GLE And GLS SUVs Over Windshield Bonding Issue
Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC has issued a voluntary recall for a total of 26 vehicles from the 2024 and 2025 model years, citing a windshield bonding issue that may compromise the integrity of critical components like the interior rearview mirror and multi-purpose camera. The defect impacts selected variants of the GLE and GLS series, including AMG and Maybach models, all produced between June 5 and October 12, 2024.
According to the report filled by Mercedes Benz USA to NHTSA said, the multi-purpose camera and/or the interior mirror might separate partially or completely from the windshield. Should the interior mirror detach, driver rear visibility would be impaired. Should the multi-purpose camera separate partially, the function of several driving assistance systems (e.g. Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Brake Assist, and Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC) might be impaired, which might increase the risk of a crash.
Due to a production deviation at a supplier, the affected adhesive joints might not have the required retention forces in specific production batches. The driver will not receive a warning due to the nature of the failure mechanism, report added.
The issue was first observed in late August 2024 during internal quality checks. An investigation that extended into early 2025 linked the fault to specific component batches. The supplier, AGC Automotive Americas Co., has since revised its production process to correct the issue as of February 21, 2025.
Owners of affected vehicles will be notified before July 15, 2025. The remedy includes windshield replacement and reinstallation of the multi-purpose camera and/or interior mirror, to be carried out at authorized Mercedes-Benz dealerships. All repairs will be covered under the vehicle’s warranty.
This recall does not involve any pre-notice reimbursement plans as the vehicles remain under manufacturer warranty and had not previously experienced the defect in the field. Dealers were informed of the campaign on May 23, 2025.
