Volkswagen has revealed the Golf GTI Edition 50, its most powerful GTI model to date, producing 239 kW. The car will enter production at the end of 2025 and arrive in early 2026 to mark 50 years of the GTI. It features chassis upgrades and optional performance enhancements.
volkswagen Golf GTI Edition 50
Volkswagen has introduced the Golf GTI Edition 50 at the Nurburgring 24-hour race, ahead of the model’s 50th anniversary in 2026. The limited-production model features a power increase and mechanical upgrades designed for track and road use. Production of the Golf GTI Edition 50 will begin at the end of 2025 in Wolfsburg, with deliveries planned from the first quarter of 2026.
Most Powerful GTI Yet
The VW Golf GTI Edition 50 is powered by a 2.0L turbocharged engine delivering 320 bhp and 420 Nm of torque. This is a step up from the standard Golf GTI’s 261 bhp and 370 Nm. Volkswagen developed the new model based on the GTI Clubsport powertrain, incorporating internal engine adjustments for the added output.
Optional Performance Package
Volkswagen will offer a GTI Performance package as an option. It includes stiffer springs, revised chassis tuning and a 20 mm reduction in ride height compared to the standard Golf. It also features Bridgestone Potenza Race semi-slick tyres mounted on lighter 19-inch forged wheels and a titanium Akrapovič exhaust system. The changes reduce overall vehicle weight and enhance grip and handling characteristics.
Nurburgring Record Lap
In April 2025, racing driver Benjamin Leuchter completed a lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7:46.13 minutes with the Edition 50, setting the fastest time for a production Golf model on the circuit.
