Audi Opens Second EV Charging Hub In Tokyo’s Shibakoen District

Audi opened its second electric vehicle (EV) charging hub in Tokyo on April 24, 2025. The new site is located in the Shibakōen neighborhood, near landmarks such as Tokyo Tower, Zojoji Temple and Shiba Park. This launch follows the first Tokyo-based hub that became operational in April 2024.

Charging Setup and Access

The Shibakōen facility includes a ground-level hypercharger developed by PowerX. It can deliver a maximum charging output of 150 kilowatts and can charge two EVs simultaneously. A swivel arm, mounted above the charger, is used to support the cable and make handling easier. The charging hub can be used by any EV, regardless of brand.

Lounge for Users During Charging

A 50-square-meter lounge is located on the second floor of the hub. Users receive an access code on their smartphone when they begin charging. The lounge offers space for drivers while waiting for their vehicle to charge.

Power Supply and Grid Impact

The hub uses buffer storage to reduce the load on the local electricity grid. It runs on electricity sourced entirely from renewable energy. As a result, complex power infrastructure such as high-voltage lines or large transformers is not required.

Charging Demand and Future Plans

Since the first Tokyo Audi charging hub opened in April 2024, more than 2,500 charging sessions have taken place. The company is planning additional hubs in Tokyo and a second hub in Munich, Germany, expected to open in early autumn 2025.
