BYD 5 Minute Megawatt Fast Charging Makes Tesla Look Primitive

BYD's new Super e-Platform aims to eliminate EV charging anxiety with its Megawatt Fast Charging technology. This platform can deliver 400 km of driving range in just 5 minutes, matching refueling times of traditional combustion engine vehicles. BYD's goal is to make EV charging as fast as refueling a gasoline car, thus increasing EV adoption.

BYD 5 Minute Megawatt Fast Charging Makes Tesla Look Primitive

Chinese automaker BYD first took over the pole position from Tesla to become the top global electric car brand in the world. Now BYD has showcased its new Megawatt Fast Charging technology which makes Tesla look primitive.
BYD has shared details of the Super e-Platform, which is an electric vehicle (EV) architecture designed to match the refueling time of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles with new Megawatt Fast Charging technology. This platform supports a company claimed charging power of 1,000 kW, allowing a five-minute charge to provide 400 km of driving range.
The BYD Super e-Platform with Megawatt Fast Charging support includes an updated motor, electronic control system and battery. The company stated that the motor delivers 580 kW of power and operates at 30,000 rpm. The initial models - HAN L and TANG L have a top speed exceeding 300 kmph. This platform is built with a high-voltage system across the battery, motor, power supply and air conditioning. The battery system enables a charging current of 1,000A and a charging rate of 10C. A newly developed silicon carbide (SiC) power chip supports a voltage rating of 1,500V.
The BYD Super e-Platform requires high-power charging infrastructure. The company has developed a liquid-cooled charging terminal capable of delivering 1,360 kW. The company also revealed its plans to install over 4,000 megawatt charging stations in China. A dual-gun charging system has been introduced to enhance compatibility with existing fast chargers.
BYD Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu stated that the goal is to make electric vehicle charging time comparable to refueling combustion-engine vehicles. The Super e-Platform and its supporting infrastructure are intended to increase the adoption of electric vehicles.
