Takeuchi emphasized the importance of the "Make in India" initiative, urging the auto sector to focus on deep localization, including the development of semiconductor and electronics manufacturing. Maruti Suzuki’s export numbers have tripled over the past four years, and the company aims to triple these figures again within six years. The company is set to roll out multiple EV products, with plans to export the high spec EV to markets in Europe and Japan.
Maruti Suzuki’s clean energy strategy also includes alternative powertrains like hydrogen fuel cells, strong hybrids, and biofuels. Takeuchi noted India’s vast bio-waste resources and potential to lead the world in biofuel production, which can drastically reduce the carbon footprint. He stressed that India should adopt solutions suited to its unique context, rather than copying models from other countries.
Takeuchi praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mission LiFE, a program advocating for mindful consumption and environmental sustainability. He likened it to Suzuki’s own business philosophy of “Sho-Sho-Kei-Tan-Bi”—focusing on efficiency, minimal resource use, and sustainability in manufacturing.
As part of its future vision, Maruti Suzuki plans to integrate these principles into all aspects of vehicle production, from lean battery design to the reuse of EV batteries for secondary applications like street lighting. The company aims to balance technological advancement with environmental responsibility, contributing to a carbon-neutral future while ensuring the economic development of India.
