Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Becomes Fastest EV On Track In Four Continents, Sets New Electric Car Lap Record At Interlagos Circuit

The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, driven by Felipe Nasr, set a new electric vehicle lap record at the Interlagos circuit in Brazil, completing the lap in 1:42.1 minutes. The car's performance, attributed to its acceleration, torque, and handling precision, surpassed the previous record by nearly eight seconds and even outpaced the 911 Turbo S. This achievement highlights the Taycan Turbo GT's capabilities and reinforces Porsche's position in high-performance electric vehicles.

Taycan Turbo GT, the electric supercar from Porsche , equipped with the Weissach package, has set a new lap record for electric vehicles at the Interlagos circuit in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Sharing this update the company revealed that on February 5th 2025, three-time IMSA champion Felipe Nasr completed a lap in 1:42.1 minutes, surpassing the previous electric car lap record by nearly eight seconds. The record, previously held by the Taycan Turbo S, stood at 1:49.8 minutes since 2022. The Taycan Turbo GT's new time was also faster than the 1:43.087 minutes achieved by the 911 Turbo S, making it the fastest production car around the circuit.

Prior to this the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT has also set lap records at three incredibly famous race tracks across three different continents around the globe and with this new record at Interlagos Circuit the count goes up to five. Before this the Taycan Turbo GT has set the fastest lap records at the Nurburgring Nordschleife in Germany, Shanghai International Circuit in China and the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in USA.

The Interlagos circuit, also known as Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace and Autodromo de Interlagos spans around 4.3 kilometers. This racetrack is well credited for its challenging layout, which includes high-speed sections, technical corners and significant elevation changes. It also serves as a centre stage for numerous motorsport events like the Formula 1 (F1) and the FIA Endurance Championship (WEC).

Commenting on the occasion, Brazilian race car driver Felipe Nasr said, “Coming to Interlagos and getting behind the wheel of the Taycan Turbo GT right after winning the 24 Hours of Daytona was an incredible experience. I expected the strong acceleration and brutal torque but, ultimately, it was the overall performance that really impressed me.”

The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT has also been utilized as a Formula E safety car since May 2024, replacing the Taycan Turbo S. The Taycan Turbo GT features advanced engineering enhancements, including a high-efficiency pulse inverter on the rear axle that uses silicon carbide for improved performance. The vehicle can deliver up to 1,019 bhp of peak power, with an additional 160 bhp boost for ten seconds using Attack Mode.

Porsche has undertaken a serious weight reduction strategy with the Taycan Turbo GT with the extensive use of carbon-fiber components. As a result the Taycan Turbo GT is up to 73 kgs lighter than the Taycan Turbo S. The Weissach package contributes further to its track performance by eliminating the rear bench seat, focusing solely on optimizing driving dynamics.
