Tata Elxsi Inks MoU With Infineon To Develop EV Solutions For India

Tata Elxsi and Infineon Technologies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on developing electric vehicle (EV) systems tailored for the Indian market. Their partnership focuses on creating essential components like high-voltage inverters and battery management systems across various vehicle types. Tata Elxsi will handle design and validation, while Infineon will supply semiconductor parts. With EV sales in India surging, the collaboration also aims to support national electrification objectives. Future efforts may extend to sectors beyond traditional road vehicles.

Tata Elxsi Inks MoU With Infineon To Develop EV Solutions For India

Tata Elxsi and Infineon Technologies have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work on electric vehicle (EV) systems designed for use in India. The collaboration aims to develop solutions that can be applied across multiple vehicle categories, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passenger vehicles, and commercial vehicles.

Tata Elxsi X Infineon

The two companies plan to jointly work on specific EV components such as high-voltage inverters for traction and auxiliary functions, battery management systems (BMS), bi-directional onboard chargers, and thermal systems. These will be designed to support different segments of the Indian mobility market.
Tata Elxsi will be responsible for design, integration, and validation tasks. Infineon will provide semiconductor components including silicon carbide-based devices, microcontrollers, and integrated circuits. The systems under development are intended to meet Automotive Safety Integrity Level D (ASIL-D) standards, as defined under ISO 26262.
The partnership comes at a time when EV sales in India are growing, with a year-on-year increase of 25 to 30 percent in 2024. Electric two-wheeler and three-wheeler sales recorded a 28 percent rise during the same period. The work also supports national targets set by NITI Aayog, which include electrification goals of 80 percent for two- and three-wheelers and 70 percent for commercial vehicles by 2030.

Future Applications Beyond Road Transport

The scope of the collaboration may extend beyond road-based vehicles. The companies plan to explore solutions for sectors such as energy systems, off-highway vehicles and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

Management’s Viewpoint
