Volvo's Upcoming ES90 Electric Sedan Key Details Revealed Ahead Of Its Global Launch

Volvo is set to unveil the all-new ES90, a fully electric sedan, on March 5, 2025. The upcoming electric sedan features a software-defined architecture, dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin computing power and an 800-volt system for fast charging.

Volvo ES90: Software-Defined Architecture and Computing Power

The ES90 features a dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin configuration which makes it Volvo’s most advanced car in terms of computing capacity. The system processes AI-based safety features, sensor management and battery optimization. It operates at 508 trillion operations per second (TOPS), supporting advanced driver-assistance systems and future software updates.

Volvo ES90: 800V System for Faster Charging and Extended Range

The Volvo ES90 incorporates 800-volt technology, allowing it to charge more efficiently than previous Volvo electric models. It can add 300 km of range in 10 minutes using a 350 kW fast charger and has a maximum range of 700 km under the WLTP cycle. The battery system, which includes new management software, reduces charging time from 10% to 80% by up to 30%, bringing it down to 20 minutes.

Volvo ES90: Structural Efficiency and Sustainability

The Volvo ES90 is packed with recycled and natural materials that contribute to lower CO2 emissions in production. 29 per cent of all aluminium and 18% of all steel used in the ES90 is recycled, while the ES90 also contains 16% recycled polymers and bio-based materials. The wood panels inside the ES90 are made from FSC-certified wood.
The ES90 also comes with our battery passport. Based on blockchain technology that allows us to track raw materials. The passport tells you where the lithium, cobalt, nickel and graphite used in the battery originate from. It also highlights the CO2 footprint of the full battery pack and other relevant information.

Volvo ES90: Charging and Range Considerations

The ES90’s WLTP range of up to 700 km translates to 740 km under the CLTC driving cycle in China. The figures apply to the all-wheel-drive variant equipped with twin motors and a 106 kWh battery. Charging speeds depend on external factors such as temperature, battery condition and charger specifications. Testing was conducted using 350 kW charging stations.
