Ather Rizta and 450 Series Gets BaaS: Electric Scooters Now Starts from Rs 75,999
Ather Energy has launched three initiatives to support electric vehicle (EV) buyers in India: Battery as a Service (BaaS), an extended Assured Buyback program, and an Extended Comprehensive Warranty. BaaS allows customers to purchase scooters without batteries, paying for battery usage through monthly plans.

Ather's BaaS allows customers to pay for battery usage based on kilometers traveled, charging Rs 1 per kilometer, which is quite different from Honda's subscription plans that start at Rs 678 for lower energy usage. Hero MotoCorp is also introducing a BaaS model for their Vida VX2, allowing flexible subscription plans that cater to varying budgets and usage, but specifics on pricing and structure are still emerging. This indicates a trend towards flexible payment models in the EV sector.
Ather's Extended Comprehensive Warranty covers the battery and 11 other key components for up to five years or 60,000 kilometers, providing peace of mind for major repairs. In contrast, the Eight70 Warranty specifically focuses on battery health, offering coverage for eight years or 80,000 kilometers with a guaranteed 70% battery health. This makes the Eight70 Warranty particularly valuable for long-term battery performance assurance.
Ather's Care service plans provide a structured approach to maintenance with three tiers: Care, Care Plus, and Care Max, offering various levels of service including free periodic maintenance, discounts on parts and labor, and additional benefits like polishing and washing. This contrasts with many other brands, which may not offer such tiered options or comprehensive coverage for maintenance, emphasizing Ather's commitment to customer service in the EV market.
The Ather Rizta offers two variants, S and Z, with battery capacities of 2.9 kWh and 3.7 kWh respectively, providing ranges of 123 km and 160 km. In comparison, the newly launched Ather 450S with a 3.7 kWh battery offers an IDC range of 161 km, showing that both models cater to similar user needs but with slight variations in performance and range, targeting different customer preferences.
Ather Energy recently celebrated delivering 1,000 units of the Rizta scooter in a single day, with Pune leading in sales. This achievement reflects Ather's effective market strategy and growing demand for their electric scooters, indicating strong acceptance in various regions. The company is also expanding production to meet this demand, showcasing their commitment to scaling operations in a rapidly growing EV market.
Ather's Battery as a Service
Under the new BaaS option, customers can purchase the Ather Rizta starting at Rs 75,999 and the Ather 450 Series starting at Rs 84,341 (both ex-showroom). Instead of paying for the scooter and battery together, customers buy the scooter without the battery and pay for battery usage through monthly plans offered by partner banks and finance companies.Assured Buyback Programme
The Assured Buyback initiative, first introduced in February on a limited scale, is now being extended to a wider customer base. It guarantees up to 60% of the scooter’s value after three years and up to 50% after four years, depending on the distance travelled. The programme is meant to provide buyers with clarity on future resale value.Extended Comprehensive Warranty
The Extended Comprehensive Warranty will cover the battery and 11 other key components, including the motor, motor controller, dashboard and charger. The warranty will be valid for up to five years or 60,000 kilometres, whichever comes first. It is available to AtherStack Pro customers and is intended to reduce financial risk from major component replacements.Maruti Suzuki Victoris Aurum Edition Launched in India: What's New?
