- The F 450 R comes with a 6.5-inch TFT display and four equipment variants.
BMW F 450 R: Engine and Performance
The motorcycle is powered by a newly developed 420cc, parallel-twin, fuel-injected engine. It produces 47bhp at 8,750 rpm and 43Nm of peak torque at 6,750 rpm. BMW says 80% of the available torque is delivered from 3,000 rpm, which should help with acceleration at lower engine speeds.
The engine uses a 135-degree crankpin offset and a balance shaft. BMW claims a fuel consumption figure of 3.8 litres per 100 km, while the 14-litre fuel tank gives the motorcycle a claimed range of more than 350 km. The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox and a left-side chain drive. Shift Assistant Pro is available on all variants except the base version.
BMW F 450 R: Chassis and Brakes
The BMW F 450 R uses a tubular steel space frame, with the engine integrated as a load-bearing element. It gets a 43mm KYB upside-down front fork and an aluminium double-sided swingarm with a KYB rear shock. The motorcycle rides on 17-inch cast-alloy wheels with 110/70-17 front and 150/60-17 rear tyres. Braking hardware includes a 310mm front disc with a Brembo four-piston monobloc caliper and a 240mm rear disc with a ByBre single-piston caliper.
BMW F 450 R: Features and Safety
BMW has equipped the F 450 R with Rain, Road and Dynamic riding modes as standard. It also gets ABS Pro, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) and engine drag torque control (MSR). A 6.5-inch TFT display is standard, offering navigation, phone connectivity and music functions. The motorcycle also gets LED lighting and a USB-C port.
The seat height stands at 790mm, while the ready-to-ride weight is 175kg. BMW also offers optional high and low seats to alter the riding position.
BMW F 450 R: Variants
The motorcycle will be offered in four equipment variants: Base, Exclusive, M Sport and M Sport with Innovation Package. The higher variants add features such as Shift Assistant Pro and Sport suspension, while the Innovation Package includes the Easy Ride Clutch. The Easy Ride Clutch can automatically engage the clutch according to engine speed and is designed to make riding easier in traffic and during low-speed manoeuvres.
