BS-III Petrol And BS-IV Diesel Vehicles Can Ply In Delhi NCR, GRAP Stage 3 Revoked
Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage III has been lifted in Delhi NCR as the Centre’s panel for overseeing the air quality of the region on Sunday cited improving air quality trend and favourable weather conditions, said an official order.
BS III Petrol and BS IV Diesel Vehicles Operable Again
Owing to favourable meteorological conditions and better wind speed, the air quality index (AQI) of Delhi and the NCR region has improved, dropping down to 335 at 5 pm on January 5. Furthermore, there are indications that the AQI is expected to get better. Moreover, the air quality and weather forecast provided by the Indian Meteorological Department suggests that the AQI of Delhi will remain in the ‘poor’ category, owing to the favourable weather conditions in Delhi for the next few days.
Under these circumstances, the Centre has revoked the stage III of GRAP and enforced the stage II of GRAP, meaning BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel vehicles can again ply in the national capital and the NCR.
“Actions under Stage-I & II of the revised GRAP shall, however, remain invoked and be implemented, monitored and reviewed by all the agencies concerned in the entire NCR to ensure that the AQI levels do not slip further. All implementing agencies shall keep strict vigil and especially intensify measures under Stage-I & II of the revised GRAP,” the official order said.
The Supreme Court of India directed the CAQM as well as the Government of Delhi that stage 3 of GRAP should be implemented if the air quality index exceeds 350 and stage 4 measures of GRAP to be reintroduced if the air quality index crosses the 400-mark.
GRAP Stage-3 was reimplemented on January 3 as the AQI crossed the 350-mark, reaching 371 by 4 pm on Friday. With advserse weather conditions cited, the Centre implemented the stage 3 of GRAP in the Delhi NCR region.
