Ducati has introduced the 2027 Desmo450 SM, a supermoto motorcycle tailored for competition, unveiled during World Ducati Week 2026. This model, based on the Desmo450 MX, features a 449.6cc single-cylinder engine delivering 62bhp and 53.5Nm.

Supermoto motorcycles remain a niche segment in India, especially when compared with the growing popularity of adventure bikes. Ducati has now given its Desmo450 platform a new purpose with the 2027 Desmo450 SM, a competition-focused supermoto based on the Desmo450 MX motocross motorcycle.
Ducati unveiled the new motorcycle at World Ducati Week 2026. Unlike the road-going Hypermotard, the Desmo450 SM has been developed specifically for racing and is not road legal.

Ducati Desmo450 SM: Engine and Performance
The Desmo450 SM is powered by a 449.6cc single-cylinder Desmodromic engine that produces 62bhp and 53.5Nm. The engine is paired with a five-speed gearbox and gets a slipper clutch along with an upshift-only quickshifter. Ducati has also revised the final-drive gearing for the supermoto version. The changes are aimed at giving the motorcycle a slightly higher top speed compared with the motocross-focused Desmo450 MX.

The Desmo450 SM gets several chassis changes over the MX motorcycle. It weighs only 109 kg without fuel, helping keep the motorcycle agile on a supermoto circuit. The motorcycle features sharper steering geometry and fully adjustable Showa suspension. It rides on smaller 16.5-inch front and 17-inch rear wire-spoke wheels, wrapped in Metzeler Racetec Slick SM tyres.
Brembo Brakes and Race-Focused Electronics

Braking hardware includes a 310mm Galfer front disc with a Brembo Stylema radial calliper and a PR15x19 radial master cylinder. At the rear, the motorcycle gets a 240mm disc with a Brembo calliper. The electronics package includes two riding modes, launch control, engine-brake control and four levels of traction control. The traction control can also be switched off completely. Ducati also offers an optional system that monitors engine wear and recommends maintenance based on the motorcycle's usage.

Will Ducati Desmo450 SM Come to India?
Ducati currently sells the Desmo450 MX in India, with the motocross motorcycle priced at Rs 17.24 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). However, the company has not announced plans to bring the Desmo450 SM to the Indian market yet.
If launched here, the Desmo450 SM would occupy a very niche space, with no direct competition currently available in India. Internationally, its closest rival is the KTM 450 SMR, another competition-spec 450cc supermoto.
