Ducati Formula 73 Limited Edition Revealed Ahead of Upcoming India Launch

Ducati has taken the wraps off the limited edition Formula 73 motorcycle. The Ducati Formula 73 made its global debut yesterday and it has been created as a tribute to the 750 Super Sport Desmo from the early 1970s. The Formula 73 is a limited edition model with its production being limited to 873 units. Sharing this update Ducati revealed that this model is scheduled to arrive at Indian shores in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The Formula 73 references the 750 Super Sport Desmo, the first Ducati road bike to use the brand’s desmodromic valve timing system. That model was derived from the 750 Imola Desmo race machine that won the 200 Miglia di Imola in 1972, ridden by Paul Smart and Bruno Spaggiari. The win marked a key point in Ducati’s production-based racing programme and helped establish its competition credentials.

The Ducati Formula 73 follows a cafe racer design with a slim profile and minimal bodywork. It gets a silver and aqua green paint scheme with a vertical gold stripe on the fuel tank, referencing the unpainted strip used on the original race bike to check fuel levels.

Some of the key design elements of the Ducati Formula 73 include - clip-on handlebars with bar-end mirrors, short front fairing, billet aluminium components, spoked wheels and special fuel cap developed with Termignoni.

• Two riding modes

Each motorcycle carries an individual serial number on the steering plate and is delivered with a certificate of authenticity along with archival sketches and images in a collector’s box.

The Formula 73 gets a 803cc Desmodue engine with electronic aids. The engine generates 72bhp and 65.2Nm of torque. It uses ride-by-wire throttle control and an exhaust system co-developed with Termignoni. The motorcycle is built around a steel trellis frame and rides on 17-inch wheels fitted with Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres.
