Ferrari 12Cilindri Manuale Unveiled With Gated Shifter, But There’s a Twist

Only 1,499 units will be produced, celebrating Ferrari's heritage while integrating contemporary technology.

Ferrari 12Cilindri Manuale Unveiled With Gated Shifter, But There’s a Twist

Ferrari has introduced a new version of its flagship V12 grand tourer, bringing back one of the brand's most loved features - the iconic gated gear shifter. Called the Ferrari 12Cilindri Manuale, the limited-edition model offers a three-pedal setup and manual gear lever, but instead of a traditional manual gearbox, it uses a newly developed Manuale By-Wire system based on Ferrari's existing eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Key Highlights:
  • Ferrari unveils the 12Cilindri Manuale with a new Manuale By-Wire transmission system.
  • Features a gated gear shifter and three pedals, but uses an 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox underneath.
  • Powered by an 819 bhp, 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine with a 340+ kmph top speed.
  • Production limited to just 1,499 units worldwide.
The new model has been designed to recreate the feel of driving a classic Ferrari while combining it with the performance and technology of a modern supercar. Production will be limited to 1,499 units globally.
Manual Feel Without a Traditional Manual Gearbox
The biggest highlight of the Ferrari 12Cilindri Manuale is its unique transmission setup. Ferrari has removed the steering-mounted paddle shifters and replaced them with an open-gate gear lever and clutch pedal.
However, unlike a conventional manual transmission, there is no direct mechanical connection between the gear lever and the gearbox. Instead, Ferrari's new Manuale By-Wire technology uses electronic sensors and controls to translate the driver's gear changes into shifts through the existing eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

According to Ferrari, the system has been carefully engineered to recreate the weight, resistance and signature click of a classic gated manual shifter, offering a driving experience that feels as close as possible to a traditional manual Ferrari.

Clutch-By-Wire System Mimics Traditional Driving Experience

The clutch pedal also uses electronic controls instead of a mechanical linkage. Ferrari says it has been tuned to replicate the feel and engagement of a conventional clutch.
Drivers can perform heel-and-toe downshifts, while incorrect gear changes can cause jerks or even stall the engine, just like in a traditional manual car. For everyday driving, the system also offers a fully automatic mode, allowing the car to function like a regular dual-clutch automatic.

Same Naturally Aspirated V12 Engine

Ferrari has retained the standard 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine found in the regular 12Cilindri.
The engine produces 819 bhp and 678 Nm of peak torque, with a redline of 9,500 rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheels through the reworked eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Despite the new transmission setup, performance remains unchanged. Ferrari claims the 12Cilindri Manuale can sprint from 0-100 kmph in around 3.0 seconds and achieve a top speed of over 340 kmph.

Cabin Redesigned Around the New Gear Lever

Inside, Ferrari has redesigned the centre console to accommodate the new open-gate gear shifter. It features a classic six-speed shift pattern along with a round aluminium gear knob that displays the selected driving mode.
The company says the new layout has been created to make the interaction between the driver and the car more engaging while preserving the character of Ferrari's classic V12 grand tourers.
Apart from the new transmission, the 12Cilindri Manuale receives several exclusive styling updates. These include special forged alloy wheels, engraved aluminium door sills and unique Tailor Made customisation options.
The launch model is finished in a new Rosso Rubino exterior colour, one of 25 historic Ferrari shades available for the special edition.

Limited to 1,499 Units Worldwide

Ferrari will build only 1,499 examples of the 12Cilindri Manuale. The production number pays tribute to the 1,499cc displacement of Ferrari's first V12 engine introduced in 1947.
With this special edition, Ferrari aims to offer enthusiasts the closest experience to driving a classic manual Ferrari while retaining the speed, reliability and efficiency of a modern dual-clutch transmission. It combines old-school driving engagement with today's technology, making it one of the most distinctive Ferraris in recent years.
