Honda Alpha EV Set to Launch in India on December 2: Expected Design, Features and Range

Honda is preparing to enter India's electric car market with its first electric SUV, the Honda Alpha. The upcoming model will make its India debut on December 2 and is expected to compete in the rapidly growing electric SUV segment. The company will manufacture the SUV locally in India for domestic sales as well as exports.
Key Highlights:
  • Honda Alpha will launch in India on December 2.
  • It will be the Japanese carmaker's first electric SUV for the Indian market.
  • The electric SUV will be locally manufactured in India for domestic sales and exports.
  • Expected features include a large touchscreen, digital instrument cluster and connected-car technology.
The Honda Alpha is based on the Honda 0 Alpha concept, which was first showcased at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2025. Since then, the electric SUV has undergone extensive testing in India to evaluate its performance across different road and weather conditions.

Honda Alpha: Expected Design and Exterior

The Honda Alpha is expected to retain several styling elements from the 0 Alpha concept. These could include upright proportions, a tall roofline and a large glass area, with a focus on cabin space and practicality. Spy images of test vehicles have revealed squared wheel arches, smooth body panels and aerodynamic alloy wheels. The front is expected to get a closed-off grille, distinctive lighting elements and a prominent bumper. At the rear, the electric SUV could feature an upright tailgate, a large windscreen and a roof-mounted spoiler.
The concept also featured an illuminated Honda logo, integrated front lighting and a U-shaped rear light arrangement. However, it remains to be seen how many of these elements will make it to the production version.
The SUV will follow Honda's 'Thin, Light and Wise' development philosophy, which focuses on lightweight construction, efficient packaging and intelligent technology.

Honda Alpha: Expected Interior and Features

Honda has not revealed the complete interior details of the production-specification Alpha. However, spy images suggest that the electric SUV could get a minimalist dashboard with a large landscape-oriented touchscreen and a separate digital instrument cluster.
A multifunction steering wheel is also expected. The infotainment system could support connected-car functions, while the overall cabin layout is likely to focus on space and everyday usability. Other expected features include advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), multiple charging-related functions and modern safety equipment. The complete feature list will be revealed at the launch.

Honda Alpha: Expected Battery, Range and Performance

Honda has not shared the battery capacity, electric motor output, driving range or charging specifications of the upcoming electric SUV. Earlier expectations suggested that the Alpha could get a 60kWh to 70kWh battery pack paired with a single electric motor powering the front wheels. However, these specifications are yet to be confirmed by the company.
Honda has been testing the electric SUV across highways, city roads and challenging terrains. The testing programme covers ride comfort, handling, durability, energy efficiency and reliability in different weather conditions, including extreme summer temperatures and monsoon conditions.
The company is also evaluating the charging system across different charging networks in India. Official details about battery performance, charging times and driving range are expected to be announced on December 2.

Honda Alpha: India Manufacturing and Expected Rivals

Honda plans to manufacture the Alpha electric SUV in India for both domestic sales and exports. This will make India an important production base for the company's electric vehicle strategy. The carmaker has not announced the expected price of the upcoming electric SUV. Its positioning will depend on the battery specifications, driving range, features and performance figures.
Once launched, the Honda Alpha could compete with models such as the Hyundai Creta Electric and Mahindra BE 6. The upcoming Tata Sierra EV could also emerge as a rival, depending on its final pricing and positioning.
With local manufacturing planned, Honda will look to establish a presence in India's competitive electric SUV market with a combination of range, technology, features and pricing.
