McLaren 788HS Breaks Cover with 766bhp V8, Only 200 Examples Planned
McLaren has taken the wraps off the all-new 788HS, a limited-production supercar that marks the final chapter of one of the brand's most successful model families. Built as the ultimate evolution of the 720S platform, the new 788HS combines more power, lower weight and improved aerodynamics to become the most focused road-going version of the series.
Key Highlights:
- McLaren unveils the new 788HS as the final evolution of the 720S platform.
- Limited to just 200 units globally - 100 Coupe and 100 Spider models.
- Powered by a 766 bhp, 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with a 0-100 km/h time of 2.8 seconds.
- Features lower weight, improved aerodynamics, and the highest power-to-weight ratio in the 720S family.
The new model effectively concludes the journey of the 720S, 765LT, and 750S, bringing together the best elements of all three into a single, highly exclusive package. McLaren will produce only 200 examples worldwide, split equally between Coupe and Spider body styles.
McLaren 788HS: Design and Aerodynamics
The Coupe version weighs just 1,265 kg (dry weight), making it the lightest and most powerful model in the 720S family. It boasts an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 605.5 bhp per tonne, helping deliver stronger performance on both road and track.
Buyers looking for the lightest possible configuration will have to opt for the Coupe, as the Spider's retractable roof adds extra weight.
Additionally, McLaren is also offering an optional full carbon-fibre body package, which further reduces weight while giving the supercar a more distinctive appearance. In addition, the 788HS receives revised aerodynamic components that generate greater downforce and improve stability at high speeds.
McLaren 788HS: Engine and Performance
Power comes from McLaren's familiar 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine, now tuned to produce 766.3 bhp and 800 Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, sending power exclusively to the rear wheels.
Performance figures are equally impressive. McLaren claims the 788HS can sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds, hit 200 km/h in 7 seconds, and achieve a top speed of 330 km/h.
Beyond the numbers, the company says the car has been engineered to offer greater consistency and sharper dynamics, making it equally capable on public roads and race circuits.

Only 200 Units to Be Built Worldwide
Rather than replacing the existing 750S, the new 788HS serves as a celebration of the entire 720S generation. It combines the everyday usability of the 720S, the track-focused character of the 765LT, and the latest advancements introduced with the 750S into one final limited-edition model.
With production capped at 100 Coupe and 100 Spider models, demand is expected to exceed supply. For enthusiasts and collectors alike, the McLaren 788HS is set to become one of the brand's most desirable modern supercars while bringing the iconic 720S era to a fitting close.
