Next-Gen Tesla Roadster Teased Ahead of Global Debut; Launch Event Pushed to October 15
Tesla has released a new teaser of the next-generation Roadster ahead of its global debut. The electric sports car was originally scheduled to be unveiled on October 1st 2026. However, Tesla has now postponed the event to October 15th due to severe weather conditions in central Texas.
The latest teaser provides a first look at the front-end design of the production-spec Roadster. It shows a low-slung silhouette with a horizontal LED light bar stretching across the front. Tesla has not yet revealed the complete exterior design of the new model.
Next-Gen Tesla Roadster: What to Expect
The latest teaser follows an earlier image released by Tesla that showed the rear section of the upcoming Roadster. The teaser revealed a full-width LED tail-light, a large rear wing and four horizontally positioned elements that are expected to be part of the proposed SpaceX package.
The design appears to retain the low and wide proportions of the Roadster concept first shown in 2017, while incorporating revised styling for the production version. Tesla is yet to confirm the complete design and specifications of the production model.
Tesla Roadster: SpaceX Package
One of the key technologies associated with the next-generation Roadster is the proposed SpaceX package. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has previously said that the system could use cold-gas thrusters to improve the car's acceleration, braking and cornering performance.
Tesla is also expected to demonstrate the technology during the upcoming Roadster event. Reports suggest that a specially equipped prototype could be used to showcase the system. However, Tesla has not confirmed the final specifications or whether the proposed thruster system will be available on customer cars.
Tesla Roadster: Expected Performance
Tesla's official Roadster website currently lists a claimed 0-60 mph acceleration time of 1.9 seconds, a top speed of more than 250 mph and a claimed range of 620 miles.
Elon Musk has previously claimed that the SpaceX package could reduce the 0-60 mph acceleration time to around 1.1 seconds. This figure is linked to the proposed package and should not be considered a confirmed production specification until Tesla releases final details.
The Roadster is expected to use a three-motor all-wheel-drive setup, although Tesla is yet to confirm the final powertrain configuration for the production model.
