Mitsubishi Xforce HEV Secures Five-Star Safety Rating In 2024 ASEAN NCAP

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation announced that its new hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) version of the Xforce SUV has received a 5 star rating in the 2024 ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (ASEAN NCAP). This follows a similar top rating awarded to the gasoline-powered version earlier in the year. ASEAN NCAP evaluates vehicle safety in Southeast Asia based on areas such as adult and child occupant protection, safety assist technologies and motorcyclist safety.

Safety Systems and Features

The Xforce HEV includes Mitsubishi’s Safety Sensing suite, which consists of six main driver assistance systems:
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
  • Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM)
  • Blind Spot Warning with Lane Change Assist (BSW/LCA)
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
  • Automatic High Beam (AHB)
  • Lead Car Departure Notification (LCDN)

It also gets six airbags and a RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body structure designed to reduce crash impact on occupants.

Launch and Powertrain

The Xforce HEV was introduced in Thailand in March 2025. It is based on the Xforce model first launched in Indonesia in 2023. The hybrid system is adapted from Mitsubishi’s plug-in hybrid technology to support improved fuel efficiency and acceleration.
Recently, AISIN Corporation confirmed that a hybrid unit it developed will be installed in the Mitsubishi Xforce HEV. The announcement was followed by the unveiling of the vehicle in Thailand by Mitsubishi. The hybrid system is AISIN’s first series-parallel type, jointly developed with Mitsubishi Motors. It includes a drive motor and gearbox, and will be sold directly to Mitsubishi.

Driving Technologies

The HEV model uses a front-wheel-drive layout and includes Mitsubishi’s Active Yaw Control (AYC) system, along with seven drive modes. These systems aim to support vehicle control in different driving conditions.

Market Context

In some regions, the Xforce is sold under the name Outlander Sport. Mitsubishi Motors has stated that its focus remains on improving vehicle safety through both technology and public awareness.
