February 2025 Sales Included Paid Orders, Not Bookings: Ola Electric Issues Clarification
Ola Electric has responded to concerns over discrepancies in its February 2025 sales figures. The company attributes lower VAHAN registration numbers to internal process changes and ongoing vendor negotiations, stating that the reported figures reflect fully paid orders, not just bookings.
February 2025 Sales Included Paid Orders, Not Bookings: Ola Electric Issues Clarification
In a recent regulatory filing, Ola Electric has issued a clarification following widespread questions about its February 2025 electric two-wheeler sales figures.
In a public statement, the company said "Our February 2025 sales announcement was based on paid and confirmed orders, not preliminary “bookings”. In February, we disclosed our sales data based on these paid orders as our routine registration process—reflected on the VAHAN portal—was disrupted due to a transition of the process in-house as part of an efficiency initiative. Since then, we have faced consistent negative commentaries from some quarters."
The clarification comes amid a mismatch between Ola’s reported figures and those recorded on the Ministry of Road Transport’s VAHAN portal. While Ola declared sales of over 25,000 units for February 2025, VAHAN data shows only 8,647 registered vehicles during the same period.
The company noted that about 90% of the reported orders were fully paid, including sales of its Gen 3 and Roadster X models, which were available for full purchase in February. Ola stated that it chose to issue a public clarification to avoid further speculation.
Vendor Transition and Backlog Update
In March, Ola Electric stated that the temporary backlog in vehicle registrations was due to ongoing negotiations with vendors responsible for handling the process. The company claims that daily registrations have now surpassed 50% of its three-month daily sales average and that 40% of the backlog has been cleared.
Ola added that it expects to resolve the remaining backlog by the end of March. It also claimed that some reports wrongly portrayed the delay as a regulatory issue and linked the media attention to the company’s recent termination of contracts with two registration vendors.
For February 2025 sales Ola Electric declared that they sold more than 25,000 units in February with a market share of over 28%. But according to Vahan Portal, Ola Electric sold 8,647 units of electric two-wheelers in February 2025 reflecting a Y-o-Y decline of 74.6% compared to 34,063 units sold in February 2024. In terms of M-o-M sales Ola Electric saw a 64.4% decline with 24,336 units sold in January 2025.
