NITI Aayog Expands EV Fleet With CESL’s ‘EV As A Service’ Initiative

20 electric cars were added to NITI Aayog’s fleet under the ‘EV as a Service’ initiative by Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). The vehicles were flagged off by officials from NITI Aayog and CESL. With this, the total number of electric cars deployed at NITI Aayog by CESL and EESL has reached 35.

How the Initiative Works

CESL provides electric vehicles to government bodies through a leasing model. The service includes repair and maintenance, ensuring compliance with regulations under the Motor Vehicles Act, labour laws and other relevant policies. The beneficiary does not have to pay upfront costs, and lease payments are made on a monthly basis for up to five years.

Government EV Adoption Plans

CESL has deployed around 2,200 electric cars across central and state government offices, as well as public sector enterprises. The company aims to introduce 5,000 electric cars in government fleets within the next two years. This effort is in line with India’s target of having 30% electric vehicles on roads by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.
Vishal Kapoor, MD & CEO, CESL said, “CESL is proud to have been spearheading Govt. of India’s vision to promote adoption of sustainable mobility solutions in Govt. fleets. Through initiatives like ‘EV as a Service,’ we are ensuring a seamless transition from ICE to electric vehicles, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, and facilitating govt departments to switch to green mobility.”
Recently, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has awarded its first Letter of Award (LoA) for the procurement and distribution of 1,800 cargo e-cycles across four states; Bihar, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
