Porsche Recalls Over 8,500 Macan Electric SUVs For Rear Camera Software And Hardware Defects

Porsche Cars North America has announced a voluntary safety recall for 8,571 Macan Electric SUVs produced between March 15, 2024 and March 18, 2025 due to issues related to the rearview camera system, which could lead to noncompliance with federal safety standards for rear visibility.
According to the report filed by Porsche to NHTSA said, All subject vehicles have an issue with the originally installed data set in the parking system software which can (in rare cases) prevent the system from waking up from standby mode when the parking system is activated, or cause ethernet communication problems between the cameras and certain control units. In a sub-group of these same vehicles, it is possible that a lack of plasma cleaning during production of the cameras may result in an insufficient bonding of the camera housing which can allow moisture ingress. This can deteriorate the camera image and makes it blurred. The malfunction is immediately apparent due to a blurred or missing camera image. In some but not all cases a white warning message appears.
To deal with the issue, Porsche will reprogram the software in all affected vehicles with an updated data set that ensures the camera system functions properly. Vehicles with faulty camera housings will undergo inspection, and affected cameras will be replaced. All repairs will be conducted under the Porsche New Car Limited Warranty, with no reimbursement required from owners.
The updated software was implemented in production on March 25, 2025. Improved camera bonding techniques were introduced earlier, on November 6, 2024.
