Stellantis has announced it will launch Leapmotor electric vehicles in India. This follows an earlier statement made in 2023, when the company set a timeline to begin operations by the end of calendar year 2024.
Leapmotor will become the third BEV-only brand to enter India, after BYD and Vinfast. BYD began operating in 2021, while Vinfast is expected to start later in 2024.

Fourth Brand Under Stellantis in India

Leapmotor will be Stellantis’ fourth brand in India, following Citroen, Jeep and Maserati. The company stated this move is part of its plan to increase electric vehicle options in selected markets.

Leapmotor Sales Outside India

Leapmotor, based in China, delivered about 300,000 electric vehicles in 2024. The company is expanding operations outside China as part of a broader business plan.

More BEV Brands Entering India

Leapmotor's entry adds to the number of BEV brands in India. The battery electric segment is seeing new entries from both domestic and foreign companies as they establish operations in the country.
Shailesh Hazela, CEO and Managing Director, Stellantis India, said, "We’re excited to announce the entry of Leapmotor brand in India thereby strengthening our commitment to the market. We already have a strong presence in India with our Jeep and Citroën brands, and we deeply understand the strategic importance and immense potential that the Indian market holds. Globally, Leapmotor is redefining electric mobility with a strong focus on innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction. We look forward to bringing premium EVs to India's upwardly mobile consumers—vehicles that redefine modern driving with cutting-edge technology, comfort, and sustainability."
