According to the report filed by Tesla to NHTSA said, On affected vehicles, a supplier assembly operator may have failed to secure the ring terminal of the horn ground wire resulting in a loss of continuity for the horn circuit.
The issue was identified on July 9, 2025, during an end-of-line inspection, when a steering wheel showed intermittent horn functionality. Tesla traced the problem to a potential assembly error by a supplier, Yanfeng International Automotive Technology, based in Mexico. The improperly secured horn ground wire could disrupt the circuit, rendering the horn inoperable when pressed.
Tesla’s investigation, completed on July 23, 2025, found five vehicles potentially affected. The company also confirmed two warranty claims related to the issue but reported no accidents, injuries, or fatalities.
To deal with the issue, Tesla will replace the steering wheel assemblies in all affected vehicles free of charge. The updated steering wheels will have the horn ground wire properly secured. Production was corrected on July 14, 2025, after the supplier enhanced inspection tolerances and retrained assembly operators on wire routing and attachment.
