Kinetic DX+ Electric Scooter Review: Baby Boomer Goes Gen-Z!

The Kinetic DX from the 1980s had sharp lines and angles, giving it a distinct appearance at the time. The 2026 Kinetic DX+ retains the same design highlights without compromising on modernity. The LED headlamp housing is still wide, but the LED headlamp is slim and flanked by V-shaped LED indicators. The scooter’s apron catches attention with its illuminated Kinetic logo. The iconic windscreen with the Kinetic branding retains close resemblance to the original design, however, the letters are now illuminated and bigger in size.

From the side, you notice a similar silhouette, the floorboard is flat and wide, and the rear quarter panels sweep upwards to merge into the retro-style taillamp, which again gets a rectangular shape with integrated LED indicators. One thing that true fans of the original scooter will miss is the rear-mounted spare wheel. A bonus is the metal body panels that add a perceived sense of toughness to the scooter’s build quality.

The wide seat is well-cushioned and measures 714 mm in length, as per the company. It did not take me a lot of time to get comfortable with it. Once on the scooter, I noticed that the instrument cluster still retains a similar housing layout from the 1980s, only this time, all the information is showcased on an 8.8-inch LCD screen.

It does a decent job, but visibility is compromised under direct sunlight.

Before we get to the ride and practicality of this electric scooter, allow me to highlight some quirky and unique features that make the scooter stand out to me. The first were the 'Easy Flip' rear foot pegs that mechanically flip open, triggered by pressing a lever below the left side of the handlebar.

Next is the 'Easy Key' digital lock/unlock system, which comes with a rubber key touchpad used to feed in a numeric password to unlock the vehicle.

However, the most unique feature in the new DX+ was the 'Easy Charge' built-in charger that has a 3-metre long retractable wire. The wire lives behind the front body panels and comes with a three-pin charger for ease of use. A slight pull on the wire will retract it back to its housing, which also has a neatly integrated slot to plug in the head of the charger cable. Also note that the 2.6 kWh battery on board is an LFP unit, which is claimed to be better in terms of safety and long-term performance.

Kinetic DX+ Electric Scooter Review: Ride Impressions

The Kinetic DX+ riding experience highlight mainly revolves around the three riding modes - Range, Power and Turbo - in increasing levels of performance output tune. The Range mode has a top speed of 50 km/h, and this is where it has the potential to return the claimed 105 km real-world range. The Power mode is the middle setting, and it is the Turbo mode that lets you achieve the claimed top speed of 80 km/h in the DX+ variant and 70 km/h in the entry-level DX variant of the scooter. The good part here is that the difference in acceleration between the modes is minor, and the increase feels linear.

To ride, the scooter feels light and nimble in traffic, and the combi-brake setup with the 220mm front disc brake works well for most scenarios. However, the bite from the 130mm rear drum brake feels inadequate under sharp braking.

In the practicality department, the main highlight is the 37-litre under-seat storage area that can accommodate two open-face helmets, however, we couldn’t fit in our full-size helmet. It also gets a cubby hole and a designated smartphone holder for added functionality, along with an LED light for better visibility at night. Other convenience features, such as cruise control and reverse park assist, were also on board and worked in a satisfactory manner.

However, all functions, such as the headlamp, indicators, riding modes, hazard lights, seat release and charger lid release, are operated through the handlebar-mounted buttons. To be honest, being made of rubber and clubbed so closely, with similar shapes, meant it was difficult to memorise their positions just by the feel through the riding gloves. As a result, operating the functions while on the move will take some time to adapt. The lights, the horn and switching between riding modes required me to take my eyes off the road, and while this looks great design-wise, I believe it could have been done better purely in terms of ease of use. The scooter also raises questions in terms of its fit and finish when compared to other rivals in the price bracket.

Priced at Rs 1.17 lakh (ex-showroom), the Kinetic DX+ offers a good mix between retro charm, safer LFP battery tech, segment-leading top speed and over 100 km real-world range. While it cannot be said that the scooter is among the most affordable out there, it is certainly worth considering due to a robust bill of pros over its cons. Moreover, if you have a nostalgic connection with the Kinetic brand, then the DX+ has enough going for it to be worth a test ride.
