Chennai To Host India’s First Night Street Race: A New Era For Indian Motorsport

The Indian Racing Festival (IRF) is preparing to introduce a new chapter in Indian motorsport with its inaugural night street race in Chennai. Scheduled for August 30 to September 1, 2024, this event will be the first of its kind in India, taking place on a 3.5-kilometer circuit that winds through some of Chennai’s most recognizable landmarks. The track features 19 turns, multiple chicanes and challenging elevations, promising an exciting race for both drivers and spectators.
The IRF includes two key championships: the Indian Racing League (IRL) and the FIA-certified Formula 4 Indian Championship (F4IC). The IRL, notable for being the world’s first gender-neutral racing series, features six city-based teams, each competing in a dynamic, franchise-based format. The F4IC provides a platform for young drivers, offering them a chance to gain valuable experience and Super License points without the need to go abroad.
This year’s festival is supported by the Government of Tamil Nadu, reflecting the state’s commitment to promoting motorsport. The event also enjoys backing from prominent figures, including former cricketer Sourav Ganguly, Arjun Kapoor, John Abraham and Naga Chaitanya who are involved as team owners.
Racing Promotions Pvt. Ltd. (RPPL), the organizer behind the IRF, aims to strengthen India’s position in the global motorsport arena by hosting events that meet international standards. RPPL, co-founded by Akhilesh Reddy, Armaan Ebrahim and Aditya Patel, focuses on creating opportunities for Indian racing talent while fostering a broader motorsport ecosystem within the country.
