The upcoming BMW F 450 GS is set to replace the outgoing G 310 GS in the brand’s India lineup. The F 450 GS has been developed jointly by BMW Motorrad and TVS Motor Company, and will be manufactured at TVS Hosur facility.
In terms of design, the BMW F 450 GS draws cues from the larger BMW R 1300 GS, featuring GS family styling in a smaller format. The motorcycle rides on a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel combination with dual-purpose tyres. Suspension duties are handled by upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock setup. BMW will offer the bike in four variants: Basic, Exclusive, Sport and GS Trophy. The GS Trophy variant is expected to be more off-road oriented, featuring tubeless wire-spoke wheels and knobby-pattern tyres.
Powering the BMW F 450 GS is a 420cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine producing 48 bhp and 43 Nm of torque. The motor features a 135-degree firing order and is paired with a six-speed gearbox. A slipper clutch and bi-directional quickshifter are expected to be offered as standard.
The motorcycle is also expected to feature a range of electronic rider aids, including traction control, ABS Pro, riding modes, and engine drag torque control. A TFT display with connectivity and navigation support is also likely to be part of the equipment list.
Once launched, the F 450 GS will compete in the middleweight adventure segment against models such as the KTM 390 Adventure, Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and Honda NX500. Pricing is expected to start at around Rs 5 lakh (ex-showroom).
