BMW M Neue Klasse Concept Patented in India, Set to Debut as an Electric Sedan

BMW is advancing towards an all-electric future with its M Neue Klasse, which is anticipated to be the next M3. Production is set to begin globally in 2027, with a possible launch in India afterward.

BMW M Neue Klasse Concept Patented in India, Set to Debut as an Electric Sedan

BMW appears to be moving firmly towards an all-electric future for its performance cars. The recently previewed BMW M Neue Klasse is expected to become the next-generation M3 and the concept version of the electric sedan has now been patented in India. Unlike earlier expectations of a petrol-powered version continuing alongside it, the new-generation M car is set to focus on electric power.
Key Highlights:
  • BMW’s upcoming M Neue Klasse is expected to serve as the next-generation M3
  • The electric performance sedan will use a quad-motor setup with one motor at each wheel
  • It is expected to get a battery pack larger than 100kWh with an 800V architecture
  • Global production is scheduled to begin in 2027, with an India launch likely to follow later

BMW M Neue Klasse: Production From 2027

The next-generation electric M sedan is scheduled to enter global production from 2027. BMW could bring the model to India at a later stage, although an exact launch timeline has not been confirmed.
The M Neue Klasse will be based on BMW’s new EV-specific architecture, which has been developed to support high-performance electric models. The performance sedan is expected to feature four electric motors, with one motor powering each wheel.

Quad-Motor Setup and Torque Vectoring

The four-motor system will allow BMW to independently control the power delivered to each wheel. The setup is expected to work with advanced torque-vectoring technology to improve traction and handling.
BMW will manage these systems through its Dynamic Performance Control software. The new architecture will also use dedicated computing hardware to control functions such as infotainment, driver assistance and comfort features.

Over 100kWh Battery and 800V Technology

The M Neue Klasse is expected to use a battery pack with a capacity of more than 100kWh. It will be based on an 800V electrical architecture and use BMW’s next-generation cylindrical battery cells.
The architecture can also support both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations, depending on the model and application.

Electric M3 Could Get Simulated Gear Shifts

Despite being fully electric, BMW could use technology designed to make the driving experience feel more familiar to enthusiasts. The upcoming electric M models are expected to feature synthetic engine sounds and simulated gear shifts.
Technical specifications such as the final power output and performance figures have not yet been revealed. However, the quad-motor setup and large battery could make the next-generation electric M sedan significantly more powerful than the current M3, with the potential to challenge even the BMW M5 on outright performance.
