Bugatti Destrier Revealed Globally: One-Off Hypercar Gets 1,578bhp W16 Engine

Bugatti has unveiled the Destrier, a one-off hypercar that takes the engineering foundation of the track-focused Bolide and gives it a completely different design direction. Created as part of Bugatti’s Solitaire programme, the Destrier is the third bespoke model under the initiative and combines extreme proportions with a cleaner aerodynamic design and a more luxurious cabin.
Key Highlights:
  • Bugatti Destrier is the third one-off model under the brand’s Solitaire programme
  • Based on the track-focused Bolide’s carbon-fibre monocoque and powertrain
  • Gets a 1,578bhp 8.0-litre quad-turbo W16 engine with 1,850Nm
  • Features bespoke Sapphire Celeste paint and a more luxurious cabin than the Bolide

Bugatti Destrier: Design and Dimensions

At just one metre in height, the Destrier is the lowest Bugatti ever made. It rides on large 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels, significantly bigger than the 18-inch wheels used by the Bolide.

While the Destrier uses the Bolide’s carbon-fibre monocoque, almost all of its exterior bodywork has been redesigned. Unlike the Bolide, which uses prominent wings, vents and aerodynamic elements to maximise downforce, the Destrier has a much cleaner and more flowing appearance.
Bugatti’s signature C-line remains a key part of the design, although it has been reworked for this one-off model. The brightwork curve moves ahead of the front wheel before flowing towards the wider horseshoe grille.
At the front, the grille dominates the design, while the rear features an integrated wing that forms part of the bodywork. The low roof, wide rear haunches and deeply positioned cabin give the Destrier a distinctive stance.

Destrier Gets Inspiration From Bugatti’s Racing History

The Destrier also carries a strong connection to Bugatti’s motorsport heritage. The brand has drawn inspiration from the Type 57 chassis, which formed the basis for both the Type 57G and Type 57C “Tank” racing cars, as well as the legendary Type 57SC Atlantic.
The Type 57G and Type 57C race cars went on to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1937 and 1939, while the Atlantic became one of Bugatti’s most iconic designs.
A laser-engraved plate positioned above the windscreen features images of the Type 57G Tank and Type 57SC Atlantic, highlighting this link between Bugatti’s historic and modern creations.
The Destrier is finished in a unique Sapphire Celeste paint shade. The multi-layered blue finish gets a sparkling effect and is complemented by polished aluminium detailing.
The exposed carbon-fibre sections on the front splitter and rear diffuser have also been tinted to match the exterior colour. Bugatti has used a hammered finish on several engine-bay components, inspired by the hand-beaten armour associated with medieval knights.
Inside, the Destrier takes a completely different approach from the stripped-down cabin of the Bolide. It features Ambre Voyageur leather and nubuck upholstery, along with a 3D-knitted textile incorporating copper yarn.
The hammered finish is also carried over to several cabin elements, including the door opener, air vents, steering wheel hub and entry plate. A small French flag has also been added to the interior.

Bugatti Destrier: Engine Specs

Despite its design-focused character, the Destrier retains the Bolide’s complete powertrain. It is powered by Bugatti’s 8.0-litre quad-turbocharged W16 engine, producing 1,578bhp and 1,850Nm of torque.
For reference, the track-only Bolide can accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 2.17 seconds. The Destrier’s oil filler cap also carries its emblem along with a “1/1” marking, highlighting its one-off status.
With its bespoke design, motorsport-inspired engineering and luxurious cabin, the Bugatti Destrier showcases a different interpretation of the brand’s extreme performance philosophy while retaining the mechanical firepower of the Bolide.
