French automaker Renault has outlined its next phase for the Indian market. The details shared by Renault India revealed its plan to expand its product lineup in the country by 2030. Sharing this update the automaker has revealed that it is planning to introduce the production version of the Renault Bridger concept in India which is positioned as a key product, aimed at the sub-4M SUV segment with both internal combustion and electric powertrain options.

Renault India 2030 Vision

In its 2030 vision, Renault India isn’t just looking to increase its presence in the country but it is also aiming to make India its global production hub. This move also aligns with the Indian government's vision for the automotive sector with ‘Make in India, Make for the World’. Localization is a very essential element in the Indian market and Renault had previously set a great example for the same with the introduction of the Kwid back in 2015. Maybe, Renault India can write another chapter this time around with this strategy. However, how well this move will pay this time around is something which we will have to wait and watch out for. The automaker has also shared that

Renault Bridger SUV

The Renault Bridger is expected to sit between the Renault Kiger and the new-generation Renault Duster in the brand’s India lineup. With the Bridger, Renault is looking to target the sub-4M SUV segment which generates high-volume. This segment is a volume getter and Skoda Kylaq, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet are great examples of the brand cashing in on the opportunity. What remains to be seen is if Renault can replace that success in the segment and change its course to a major volume player in the domestic market.

Renault Bridger SUV: Platform

The Renault Bridger will be based on the RGMP (Renault Group Modular Platform). This modular architecture is part of Renault’s wider approach and is capable of supporting multiple powertrains, including electrified options.
In terms of size, the SUV is expected to measure under four metres in length, allowing it to benefit from tax regulations in India. The model is likely to be positioned as a more premium offering than the Kiger, while remaining more accessible than the Duster.

Renault Bridger SUV: Powertrain

The Renault Bridger will be introduced with the 1.2L turbo-petrol engine; this engine will debut in the domestic market with this SUV. The Bridger can also get the 1.0L turbo-petrol engine already on offer on the Kiger for affordability.
The details shared by Renault highlights that, alongside ICE options, the Bridger is also expected to get an all-electric version. The EV derivative is expected to use battery packs of up to around 40 kWh. Depending on configuration, the electric version of the Bridger could deliver a claimed driving range in the 250 km to 400 km bracket.

Renault India EV Strategy

The Bridger EV is expected to mark Renault’s entry into the mass-market electric vehicle space in India. Once introduced, it is likely to compete with models such as the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV and others
The platform’s multi-energy capability aligns with Renault’s global strategy to offer both ICE and electric options within the same product line-up, depending on market requirements.

Renault Bridger SUV: Design & Features

The Bridger concept previews a design direction focused on SUV proportions. The model is expected to feature an upright stance, squared-off bodywork and elements such as body cladding, roof rails and large wheels.
Other design details could include a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, vertical tail lamps and a flat roofline. The front fascia is likely to adopt Renault’s latest design language, with a wide grille and LED headlamps.

Renault Bridger SUV: Production & Expected Launch

Production of the Renault Bridger is expected to take place at the company’s Chennai facility, which also serves as a manufacturing and export hub. The model is scheduled to be introduced in India in 2027 as previously confirmed by the company. Renault is also planning to export the Bridger from India to global markets.
