Sony Honda Mobility presented the Afeela Prototype 2026 at CES 2026 and shared updates on AFEELA 1, including delivery timelines, technology roadmap, and plans for future markets.

Sony Honda Mobility Afeela Prototype 2026 Makes World Premiere at CES
Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) outlined its mobility plans and showcased new developments under the Afeela brand during a press conference held ahead of CES 2026. The company introduced a new prototype and provided updates on its first production model, Afeela 1.
Afeela Prototype 2026: Design
The Afeela Prototype 2026 features a clean, minimal silhouette with a coupe-like roofline that flows smoothly into the rear, giving it a fastback-style profile. The front has a closed-off layout with a slim light strip running across the width and minimal surface detailing.
The side profile uses flat, uninterrupted panels with subtle creases, flush door handles and a clean shoulder line extending from front to rear. The roof appears as a continuous glass panel with reduced pillar visibility, while roof-mounted sensors are integrated into the structure.
Afeela Prototype 2026 Revealed
At the event, SHM revealed the Afeela Prototype 2026, which is intended to preview a future production model planned for the U.S. market as early as 2028. According to the company, the prototype is based on the same core concept as Afeela 1 but is designed with changes aimed at improving interior flexibility and ease of access for a wider range of users.

Afeela 1: Production and Delivery Plans
SHM confirmed that Afeela 1, its first production model, is currently in the pre-production stage. Customer deliveries in California are scheduled to begin within 2026.The company also announced plans to expand sales to Arizona in 2027, followed by deliveries in Japan in the first half of 2027.
Trial production runs for Afeela 1 were completed in the fall of 2025 at Honda’s East Liberty Auto Plant in Ohio. Pre-production vehicles from this facility were displayed at CES 2026.Showrooms and Customer Access
Reservations for Afeela 1 opened in California in January 2025. Since then, SHM has operated Afeela Studio showrooms and hosted vehicle display events across multiple locations. The company stated that more than 100,000 visitors have attended these events, with over 24,000 in-vehicle demonstrations conducted.
In spring 2026, SHM plans to open Afeela Studio and Delivery Hubs in Torrance and Fremont, California. These locations will combine vehicle display and customer delivery functions. Early reservation holders will be offered a phased access program, with demo drives expected to begin later in the year.
Technology and Software Roadmap
SHM shared details of its ongoing work on Afeela Intelligent Drive, its advanced driver assistance system. The system currently supports Level 2+ driver assistance, with long-term development aimed at higher levels of automation.
The company also highlighted the Afeela Personal Agent, a conversational in-vehicle system developed using Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service. This system is intended to support voice-based interaction and user-specific settings. Future Afeela models are expected to adopt components from Qualcomm Technologies’ Snapdragon Digital Chassis as part of a next-generation electrical and electronic architecture.
Co-Creation and Platform Development
SHM announced the launch of the Afeela Co-Creation Program, which will provide developers and creators with access to documentation and tools for building in-vehicle entertainment content, including Android-based applications for the infotainment system.
In addition, the company disclosed plans to develop an open, on-chain mobility service platform using a token-based incentive model. This platform is intended to support collaboration across ideation, development and user feedback stages and may be opened to other automakers and service providers in the future.
