Updated BMW Operating System and Voice Assistant
The iX3 features BMW Operating System X, which supports a new version of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. For the first time, the system integrates Amazon Alexa+ alongside BMW’s own voice assistant.
The assistant is based on a large language model and allows users to control vehicle functions and ask general questions using natural speech. It also supports multiple requests within a single sentence. BMW confirmed that this voice assistant update will be rolled out from the second half of 2026 in Germany and the US for vehicles running BMW Operating System 9 and X.

Panoramic iDrive Interface
The iX3 uses BMW’s Panoramic iDrive system, first introduced in 2025. The interface combines physical controls with digital displays and is designed to reduce the need for driver distraction. BMW stated that the system is part of its software-defined vehicle approach, allowing future updates through software.
In-Car Entertainment and App Support
BMW demonstrated several entertainment features available in Operating System X. These include video streaming through the Video App powered by TiVo, which works when the vehicle is stationary. Content includes news, live streams and on-demand videos.
The BMW ConnectedDrive Store will add YouTube Music, increasing the total app count to more than 85 globally. The iX3 also supports Zoom video calls on the central display when parked. Once the vehicle starts moving, video stops and the call continues in audio mode.
In-car gaming through AirConsole is supported, allowing passengers to use smartphones as controllers. Games such as UNO Car Party and Hot Wheels: Xtreme Overdrive are available, with some titles supporting Bluetooth gaming controllers.
Sixth-Generation Electric Powertrain
The BMW iX3 introduces sixth-generation eDrive technology, which includes new electric motors, cylindrical battery cells, and an 800V electrical system. The iX3 50 xDrive uses two electric motors producing a combined output of 462.5bhp and 645 Nm of torque. BMW claims a 0 to 100 kmph time of 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 210 kmph. The setup combines a synchronous motor at the rear and an asynchronous motor at the front. BMW stated that the new system reduces energy losses by 40 percent, weight by 10 percent, and manufacturing costs by 20 percent compared to the previous generation.
The new battery uses cylindrical cells with higher energy density than earlier designs. BMW said charging speeds are up to 30 percent faster. The battery is integrated into the vehicle structure to reduce weight. The iX3’s battery has a usable capacity of 108.7 kWh, delivering a claimed WLTP range of up to 805 km.
