According to the report filled by Tesla to NHTSA, On affected vehicles, one or more fasteners used to attach the seat back to the seat bottom may have been improperly torqued during seat assembly. In the event of a collision, the seat may not properly restrain the occupant, increasing the risk of injury. Customers may detect a loose or rattling seat due to loose or missing fasteners attaching the seat back to the seat bottom.
The problem was identified on May 12, 2025, after a field service inspection found that two out of four fasteners were missing from the driver’s seat of a customer vehicle. An internal investigation traced the problem to a production change made on April 2, 2025. This change unintentionally allowed the seat assembly process to proceed without proper verification that the fasteners were fully torqued.
To deal with the issue, Tesla will inspect all affected vehicles and replace any missing or incorrectly torqued fasteners at no cost to owners. The company also updated assembly line procedures on May 13, 2025, to ensure fasteners are properly torqued before the seat assembly process can advance.
Tesla plans to notify service centers by June 19, 2025. Owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed by August 16, 2025. Because the vehicles are still under warranty, Tesla will not be offering reimbursement for repairs already made.
